They managed to keep the A380 clean all this while and why it only gets dirty now? I was in LHR two weeks ago and first impression i heard from guy who was behind me was like, thats filthy looking plane

Probably been sitting under the sun for a while before she was called up for duty.

Looking like a usually dirty Oriental Thai bird...

You need a minimum of 3 to serve the double daily LHR runs. One can be a spare. So two surplus during most times. These usually do regular charters (umrah) or bask in the sun.

Do charters for umrah generate more income/profits for MH than the LHR route?

You have to look at charters as wholesale selling whereas scheduled routes are equivalent to retailing.

finally yesterday spotted 2 clean A380s - one was parked at the remote bay, whilst the other just arrived from London at 610pm. Looks like the news on the dirty A380 which lost a front landing wheel last week did have some positive and fast action to give the A380s a good wash.

The photo is clearly not A380 - I think journalists need to be better educated on aircraft types :)

Yes, it's the Boh-eng 330-380XWB

That isn't Heathrow either :)

We were on 9M-AHA HKG-BKI early in September - lavatories on board were also dry

Aircraft was held up near two hours at gate to have 'technical problem' seen to - no idea if they were trying to fix the loo issue. When it was time to go, it was so abrupt even the cabin crew seemed unaware, certainly a couple were surprised. Sentiment turned to disgust as flight progressed, for the loos were certainly not being used in manner intended ...... and someone had to deal with it :)

At some stretch of imagination, anyone reckon our MH too could have brokered some sort of trade in deal for her (soon to be surplus) 380s if they had approached the negotiations with a substantially bigger requirement for the 350, rather than the piecemeal 350 and 332 lease deal (that would not have interested A at the least) plus the yet to be concluded 330-900 deal ?

Not taking into consideration yet the 'disruptive' Dreamliner order proposal :)

doubt MAS/MAB would be able to do anything like this for Airbus to take back its 6 A380s, as MAB requirements for its total widebody is only 25 planes, and between this 25 planes, there is a real possibililty of MAB splitting this into a AB and Boeing buy. It's too few planes for AB to even consider any take back of its A380s

Agree - MAB is a very small Airbus customer. Insufficient level of business to support A380 trade ins. They r a long way from EK!

From a spy at the MH Rumour Department:

3 flights yesterday, MH774/775, MH782/783 and MH788/789 were 'combined' into 1 A380 flight (operating as MH774/775) to BKK.

From a spy at the MH Rumour Department:

9M-MNC did the trip.

Shortage of 738s?

There are three 738s with the swoosh livery but minus the wau on the tails at the KUL hangar area - probably being prepared for return to lessors. Anybody know their registrations?

(Hopefully, these are from the non-BSI-interior -MLI, MLK, MLL, -MLJ pack...)

I wish MH had instead de-commissioned the old interior 738s. Even the ex-Firefly 9M-FFF is still flying here and there despite a horrible interior.

The lease rates might be lower for these older aircraft. Every bit helps towards the bottom line. MAB is not a profitable top flight airline - it has to work within its means.

Thanks for sharing, nastar!

It would appear that MAB is not planning for any headline major expansion. It is certainly keeping itself to Asia and also to smaller airports that are not really served by the big players.

On the fleet - they are more focussed on long range narrow bodies to ply the smaller airports and to keep costs in check. No more grandstanding fleet purchases. The Max 8 & 10, A359 and (maybe) B789 would appear to be here to stay for quite some time...

Wow, that's very, very modest growth. Honestly am not excited by that.

Note that the 787's aren't even mentioned specifically and that seems like they have given up on Europe entirely, bar AMS.

As Trump would say: Sad! ;)

Modest but controlled growth is always much better than high but unsustainable growth.

Like I have mentioned in the different thread, MH is not in the position to plan big, having a grandeur expansion plan and all the big-big thing. MH is realistically not in the position like SQ, EK nor any big boys. Cost control remain as the main objective and you know what, better be sad now than later. Or perhaps you want to be sad forever :acute:

Precisely.

MH is being more realistic than before. Kepala dah kene hantuk multiple times and this kepala hantuk has to come to an end.
