MAS A380 - Fleet to be Retained

Recommended Posts

Actually, even though the seat is angled lie-flat, there's a lot more pitch on the B772 compared to the B744, so that would be a step up. However, an angled business class seat cannot compete with the other airlines flying the Kangaroo route.

What about MH A33E?

there are 3 gates fit for A380 at KUL, C17/C27/C37.

So KUL can only have 3 A380 at the same time? If so, the gates will be occupy by this flight then.

MH002 KUL2355 – 0525+1LHR 380 D

MH088 KUL2335 – 0715+1NRT 380 D

MH123 KUL2250 – 0945+1SYD 380 D

Btw, whats the depart time for EK A380 from KUL to DXB?

What about MH A33E?

That's even worse - a no frills business class angled seat with a lack of storage options apart from one for a water bottle.

Comes after yesterday's announcement SQ is going double daily A380 into MEL

Checked it is indeed. The 1:00am (dep. MEL) SQ218 and SQ217 flights have been replaced with A380, previously it was flown by 77W. The choice is now either 1x 773 non-ER or 2x A388 on a daily basis. I believe the 773 has been retrofitted to 77W's seats?

The 773 on this route has the same seats as the 77W in F and 333/refurbished 772 in J

The refurbished 773 & 772's J seat is not the same as that on the 333. Similar yes, same no. The ones on the 773 and 772 are wider.

Apart from the physical seat itself, J on the 333 has a tighter pitch than on the 773 and 772 refurb. PTV content-wise, the ones on the refurb 773 & 772 are inferior to those on the 333 J.

What about Y in 773? Not a usual F or J flyer, so it doesn't really worry me ;)

The Y seats are basically the same seats, just new covers placed on top, the PTV's are pretty much the same old ones too. Would have been great to have seen the 77W moved to SQ237/238, to offer a more product consistency.

I hope MH may see the announcement made by SQ as a threat, with the A380 on the late night departure on MEL now; SQ places both A380's on similar times MH departs MEL on both of MH's 2 daily flights. I am still hopeful MH flies an A380 to MEL

SQ217/218 is not bad, despite departing MEL at 1:05am (or 12:05am Daylight saving off). Arriving at SIN at 6 to catch plenty of connecting flights to elsewhere in South-East Asia or East Asia.

The "Boleh" Airline might need more A388 than just 6 if MEL is to be served along with the announced destinations.

Assuming 2x A388 will do KUL-LHR a day (due to one arriving and the other one departing). 1x A388 for SYD return, 1x A388 for NRT return, 1x A388 for PEK return, 1x A388 spare in case of emergency or training (could this be the 1x MEL/ HKG/ PVG return option)?

If the main deck isn't full, they probably going to put you down there - there was a big commotion about how they're going to make the upper deck child-free (unless the plane is full)

Actually BI is even cheaper than EY, but transit time at BWN is such a deal breaker

This is Y of course :)

It seems that BI has started to offer some really good air fares ex-BKI again. In the past 24-month, their air fares ex-BKI are hardly competitive. Depends on when you are flying out, the transit time in BWN to connect to their LHR flight is only 50-minute and it is the same for the return flight too. And for their MEL flight, it is perfectly timed to connect to their BKI service.

By the way, they are selling BKI/LHR for only RM3054 all-inclusive. A very good deal! And BKI/BKK is only RM757.

Stumbled upon these interesting photos. The abandoned Premium Economy cabin on MH A380.

The seat was on display onboard 9M-MNB in Farnborough recently but to be removed to make way for the normal Y seats prior to delivery to MH.

They were also on 9M-MNA, but removed prior to commercial service. In its place are 2 more rows of biz seats (not for more "normal Y seats" as indicated above).

Note the larger, biz-class style PTV controller/handsets on these Y+ seats. Pitch was approaching 38".

The premium eco looked decent. Too bad, they removed it.

What's done is done - can't do anything much unless MH is willing to fork out more "taxpayers" money to change the config again.

To be honest, the normal Economy's comfortable enough.

Premium Economy has so much potential actually, especially on long-haul flight.

Other than the colour, is there any difference between the premium economy seats, perhaps bigger PTV screens?
