MAS A380 - Fleet to be Retained

Upper deck Y is prob the last place where babies will be assigned to but it is unlikely to be guaranteed to be "baby-free" as there are 3 bassinet locations in that cabin.

 

Premium just means that MH will charge you extra (e.g. RM150 vs RM50) for selecting an upper deck seat, even if it is not an exit row, unless you pay the higher economy fare buckets.

 

Thank you Mushrif A. I think I maybe got lucky then as my upper Y seats were booked/confirmed before the cabin was shown as premium!

Make sure you lower your expectations as the hardware is quite underwhelming. Then, you'll be fine.

I would be disappointed too if I were you... but at least you still get to experience the A380 on the longer sector of the two.

The reason why I'm especially disappointed is that I'm thinking of doing the whole SYD-KUL-LHR (and back) in First class. I though I'd book it with plenty of time for the A380 to start flying the KUL-SYD sector. Oh well...

I'm disappointed with the SYD delay as well, as I had booked in F to go over the Hari Raya Haji period - but look at the bright side. If you move it later (I moved mine to april 2013), when MH should be part of OW by then, you'll get to use the SYD QF F lounge...

 

or you could do it in J, and hope that your MH G maps to OW E, and still use the lounge. I do however have a strange feeling that MH G will end up being mapped to OW S, MH S to OW R with only MH P mapping to OW E

One thing I like about the current Y cabin interior on A330 and A380 is the clean design, not too colourful like previous one or SQesque or EKish.

The legroom looks quite big, that guy managed to cross his legs.

I can't move my flights unfortunately. Need to travel in October. At least I'll get the A380 between KUL and LHR. I'll have to wait until next year to fly the A380 between SYD and KUL. I will reach Enrich platinum by the end of the year, so I'll get to enjoy OW E benefits next year!

Part 3 - Boarding the Aircraft

 

Considering that I was one of the first few who boarded the aircraft, might as well explore it inside out!

 

First stop, the First Class.

Total of 8 seats with enclosed monument (4 individual seats and 2 double seats).

Seat pitch of 89 inches and bed width of 40 inches. Full flat bed length of 87 inches.

Individual 23-inch IFE screen, shell mounted, largest in Malaysia Airlines fleet with wide-screen aspect ratio of 16:9. Equipped with 115VAC PED power supply and USB port.

And last but not least, the Economy Class. A little stretching going on there, I see ^_^ Looks like she's gearing herself up to receive the 400+ passengers for this flight.

Economy class at the Upper Deck with seating configuration of 2-4-2. Was a little late to snap a passenger-free shot inside this part of the aircraft, by the time I finish touring both the First and Business Class, most passengers have taken their seats.

WOW!!! Syed, thanks for the photos! Note that MH F Class is the same as CZ A380s. However MH has much more functionality and more colourful....:)

Far from being the same. CZ's is more private, higher walls and has doors that can fully enclose the suite, just like EK and SQ. CZ's F walls are also "less-porous" than SQ's.

This A380 is Malaysia Airlines' first aircraft to have the external camera view feature - an interesting addition and must be a cool sight during take-off and landing.

Some great pictures there and I'm looking forward to flying on it later in the year to LHR. I did see the plane on Tuesday as we taxied out on MH784 to BKK; I'd much rather be on the A380!

 

A lot has been mentioned of the legroom, however, for me the best part of the A380 (economy anyway), is the width. The old 747 have a seat width of 17" whereas the A380 has a width of 19" (at least the SQ flight I took last week to LHR does). These couple of inches provide a much more comfortable ride, especially on a long haul flight. No more elbow wrestling with your neighbour!

I recall when I flew QF A380 they had both a tail cam and an underbody cam. A great add-on, making the journey all the more interesting!

 

I love the MAS interior despite some of the negative comments. Everyone is entitled to their view though of course. What makes a flight for me is a comfortable interior, a friendly and attentive crew, nice food and a quiet cabin! Let's see if it lives up to my hopes in child-free upstairs Y!

Oh my, you are right! How in the world did I confuse myself when I flew on their 737-800 only last week haha! Yup - it is the Panasonic X-series for both MH 738 and A330E :sorry:

They got both AC power plug and USB socket.

Please do the homework before you make the criticism.

In light of pics and description now available, does the above still apply ?

The WAU on IFE screen still pointing to the old way

Same with embossing on galley hardware :)

If they want to get this part correct, will cost a lot lot more than rectifying display at top right corner of IFE screen :)

This could be the reason why MAS ordered the old Weber slimline seat and not the new one that CX recently introduced as Thales IFE is not certified to be fitted to the new Weber slimline seat (the integrated screen).
