Malaysia Airlines’ fourth A380 (MSN089) completed final assembly and was moved to the flightline. She took just ten weeks to complete assembly, the fastest time yet for a Malaysia Airlines frame.

She has been assigned test registration F-WWAN.

Delivery to the airline is scheduled for Q4 2012.

Very sad looking MH A380s. Are they gonna paint the rest of the aircraft soon?....2-2-2 config in J class is a serious letdown, compared to our neighbourhood competitors: SQ and TG 1-2-1 config.

AF, KE and others are using 2-2-2 as well. The F class is a bit underwhelming. May Y class save the grace......

May Y class save the grace......

Perhaps not as the seat pitch is down to 32" only and MAS was an airline that used to offer 34" of seat pitch in Y on all of their widebodied planes :(

So far MAS have confirmed 2 for LHR and 2 for SYD for their A380 destination. Any thought on the remaining 2 A380? My wild guess will be

KUL-NRT-LAX :D

You need 5 birds to support double daily KUL-LHR and daily KUL-SYD. The 6th bird will probably be used for a daily KUL-MEL service.

Just looking at the blue wau on the A380, does anybody else think it's sitting too high on the tail? I'm wondering if the new livery on the body will flow into the bottom part of the tail... That would be quite nice.

KLIA gears up to welcome MAS’ new A380 in June

TRAVELLERS flying Malaysia Airlines’ new A380 aircraft to London in July will be able to fly in style and comfort as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has improved its facilities to accomodate the new aircraft’s arrival.

“Our modifications include widening the runway and the taxiway, and upgrading the pavement strength and ground service requirements,” said KLIA general manager Mohammad Suhaimi Abdul Mubin.

Mohd Suhaimi said three main parking bays and five alternate bays had been allocated for the new aircraft and improvements had been made to facilitate passenger arrivals at the departure gate from the main terminal building.

“Previously, our track transit system (TTS), or aerotrain, had only two coaches per train. We are adding one more coach to them.” Mohammad Suhaimi said.

“We also plan to have one more train on standby in case any of the other coaches needs maintenance.”

KLIA will receive the first of six new A380 aircraft in June. The aircraft will fly to London three times a week from July 1, and daily from Aug 25, with its inaugural flight to London on July 1 this year.

The A380 seats 494 passengers, with eight First Class seats, 66 Business Class seats, and 430 Economy seats. This is a 37% increase in capacity from the B747-400 aircraft currently used for flights to London.

“We have also added a third passenger boarding bridge for the aircraft. Altogether, the total cost of the upgrades is estimated to be RM116mil.”

Mohammad Suhaimi said passengers could relax at the upgraded Gate Holding Lounges before boarding.

The lounges, he said, had two levels, each measuring 800 sq m. Its facilities include 12 television sets, nine payphones and two air purifiers per lounge.

Malaysia Airlines executive vice-president Hayati Ali said Malaysia Airlines was the first airline to showcase the A380 in a new livery, and also the eighth carrier in the world to operate the aircraft.

“Taking the A380 will be a completely different experience, from the beginning on the ground to the flight and arrival in London.

“It will be something everyone can look forward to. The service provided will be different,” she said.

Hayati said tickets for the A380’s inaugural flight to London were already on sale, and were expected to be very popular. She believed First Class tickets had already been sold out.

YouTube users also have the chance to win a joyride aboard the A380 with Malaysia Airline’s recently launched Big Flight competition.

Those interested need to submit a short video by April 22, stating why they are unique and deserve to fly on the A380.

Twenty shortlisted videos, chosen on creativity, originality and overall impression, will be put up on YouTube for voting by the public and the top eight most voted videos will win the joyride tickets.

I think MEL is an almost certain destination - heck, I've even heard that there's another route being considered in addition to the three. Perhaps they can make it work with only 3 planes on the KUL-LHR run.

It makes the most sense to fly the A380 to MEL. This way, MH can be seen as a serious contender on the Kangaroo route, offering the A380 (which includes First class) from SYD and MEL all the way to LHR. At the moment, you only have SQ, QF and EK providing this.

The seat map.

Nice to see the seat map officially out. The MH website has also been updated with the seat maps of the A33E and the B738 (both MX and ML series aircraft).

But this being MH , where typically the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing, the seat selection feature of the booking engine still shows the wrong layout. What's worst is that you get charged for selecting what was supposed to be extra legroom seats but in reality, these are normal seats in the middle of the cabin! Why cant MH pay attention to details?

Pax who paid extra for those seats will be disappointed and I wonder how efficient MH is when it comes to refunds.

Btw, if you look carefully - despite all the talk about MH restricting young children from the upper deck - the only bassinet positions are on the upper deck, and that too at each pair of biz seats! Must be an "opps!" moment.

From MH's website, it seems no mistake as to the "new" blue Wau's high position on the tail, with no additional paintwork :nea:

Interestingly, 1st Class gets 3 toilets to 8 seats while 66 Business class folk will have to share 4 toilets ?

Some disappointment from my side:

1) No suites

2) Seat features behind competition despite late start

3) Disabled toilet on the upper deck ??

4) Lack luster new livery

5) No "A380 only" menu

Nevertheless, will be traveling in C this June LHR-KUL as a graduation treat and will preserve some hope till then.
