MAS A380 - Fleet to be Retained

Recommended Posts

They can operate the super jumbo. But do not neglect the connectivity. Connectivity is still the most important. Like EK, ample flights to KUL, so convenient!

Yes, connectivity feeds the A380s. Airbus and Boeing got it correct with their A380 and B787 respectively.

On the topic, Malaysia Airlines' second A380 can be convoyed to assembly line. http://a380production.com/2011/08/81cv/

MSN 078 should be done by now and MSN 081 is half way through..... :yahoo: :yahoo:

MAS gears up for A380s

MALAYSIA Airlines pilots are training hard in anticipation of the delivery of six Airbus A380-800 superjumbos from next year.

With the use of an A380 full-flight simulator, 10 MAS captains have been trained and 100 more pilots will have received training by mid-2012. Purchased for US$17 million (RM51 million) in 2009, the simulator provides pilots with hands-on training in a cockpit replica in various weather scenarios, emergency situations and other failures the A380 might have.

It is technologically well-equipped, with a full network server and on-board information system, while the visual system utilises satellite imagery to create an actual world terrain database.

Captain Norshid Ali, who was among eight pilots trained in Toulouse, France to fly the A380 and is now an instructor, said preparations are underway for the arrival of the six new A380s, with the first expected in April.

“Due to the advanced technology and sheer size of the aircraft, pilots have to undergo seven weeks of training using the simulator as compared to the usual five weeks,” he said.

Norshid said that as the KL International Airport in Sepang does not have bays large enough to accommodate the A380, three corner bays are being specifically modified for the aircraft.

MAS’s A380 operations will begin in the third quarter of next year. The aircraft will be used for the Kuala Lumpur-London night flight, expected to be in demand because of the London Olympics.

The remaining five A380s are to arrive by July and are set to operate on the Kuala Lumpur-London and Kuala Lumpur-Amsterdam routes.

MAS acquired the six A380s for a total of US$1.6 billion (RM4.8 billion), or about US$270 million (RM810 million) each in 2009.

The agreement for the aircraft was signed under the terms and conditions of an original purchase agreement between Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd and Airbus in 2003.

In the Star paper recently, it carries the above A380 simulation article etc.,In addition, it mentioned that anyone who wishes to have a cockpit experience and simulation flight, can email to a particular email address.

It was mentioned that a fee will be charged for such privilege..

Anyone here can confirm on this? thanks.

Upper deck should also have a few YCL seats as well.

4 classes ?

Can handle the market differentiation properly or not ?

In view of recent 'collaboration' arrangement, why not

8 first

26 business

54 economy

420 LCC

????? :p

Is there still hope for MAS 388 to feature 34" of seat pitch in Y ? So far KE is the only one offering 34" of seat pitch in Y on its 388.

Actually, 5 classes of service makes more sense. Sorta like all in one.

- First

- Golden Club

- Premium Economy

- Economy

- LCC Economy

MAS + Air Asia Group = 1Company = MAS Airbus 380-800 :)

Really wish she'll have OW livery, rather than MH new livery. New livery looks OK on other aircraft, but on A380, it will look sad and bleak :(.

As for the other 5, maybe retro liveries from Malayan Airways to MSA to old MH liveries as well.

Or maybe just get a new livery instead, perhaps like this?

That is a really nice design! Especially the tail. The body is too white but I love the livery on the tail. Some people are so creative!

Well to be honest, you don't need much to be more creative than the current livery :D
