New Airport in Tekah, Taiping, Perak

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think.. The Ipoh Airport is under use and we have another at Tekah (Taiping)... I think its better to expand the runway at Ipoh or Tekah rather than making a new one....

Perak Likely To Have World's First Humanitarian Service Airport

IPOH, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Plans are afoot to build what is touted to be the world's first airport dedicated to providing humanitarian services in Bandar Seri Iskandar, about 40km from here, which is expected to cost RM1 billion.

To be developed by Casa Pasifik Sdn Bhd, the airport will take three years and two months to complete.

Casa Pasifik chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hilmi Ismail said the facility would serve as a medical training centre, aviation academy and a transit hub for global relief operations. It will also promote health tourism as well as research and development activities.

"We've chosen Bandar Seri Iskandar due to its strategic location, the amount of available land. It also fulfils security requirements. In fact, some parties have asked that the airport be built in their countries," he told reporters here today.

Disaster and war victims from across the globe may also be flown to the airport for medical treatment, he said.

Mohd Hilmi said the company had applied to the Perak state government for 800ha of land to build a 3,760m-long runway to accommodate Boeing 747 aircraft and other related projects.

According to him, Perak State Development Corporation and Casa Pasifik inked a memorandum of understanding on March 20 to signal their commitment for the project.

Mohd Hilmi also said the Civil Aviation Department gave its green light for the project in July.

Casa Pasifik, he said, had secured funding for the airport project and was now awaiting final approval from the Transport Ministry and other relevant authorities.

First, there was this space flight project from IPH airport. Then, a so-called global medical/disaster relief airport in Taiping.....and now this.

As long as no tax-payers' money is spent and no soft loan (and later forgiven for not paying) from taxpayers' funds, the pte sector can proceed. I seriously doubt that this company has secured funding.

What is not said and is conspicuously missing is why this new airport? What's wrong with SZB or other airports, such as Don Muang etc?

I heard that there are plans to built a private airport (aviation-related residential development) similar to Spruce Creek Fly-In (where John Travolta lives) in the Sri Iskandar area a few years back...i don't know what happened to it

Yeah.. SZB is a very good idea... what happened to the terminal 1 site...after being demolished? i haven't been there for a very2 long time.. i think actually they should built the flying hospital over there...terminal 1

my question is, why need to build new airport when ipoh airport is available? is ipoh airport not save enough in term of security? i seriously doubt this so call humanitarian airport going to be fully utilized in the future and i sense a giant white elephant is in the making.

Facilities and infrastructure at SZB and around Subang Jaya is more than sufficient to support GFH operation.

Building a new airport exclusively for GFH is another project like Port Klang Free Zone to channel taxpayers money to cronies.

Personally, find GFH without track record or support from multilateral agencies, unconvincing and dubious.

Hopefully it won't bring unnecessary virus and disease, plus unwanted immigrants into Malaysia.

I still can't fathom the rational of building new airport...

capable for B747 landing even.

Since there are two under utilized airport in Perak namely IPH ngan taiping. Instead of expanding IPH for A320 landing.. might as well expand for B747 rather build the whole new airport. then build new health centre within the airport boundaries connect with HST to KL.

If the company really want an airport than buy IPH from MAHB like Syed Mokhtar did when he bought JHB for intergrating all port in JB.

that may save millions.

The concept of flying hospital is to provide on site medical facility in host countries. Medical evacuation is only needed if local medical facility can’t cope up.

If GFH 742 will be equipped with advanced equipments, why do they still need medical evacuation? Why do they still need a 500 beds hospital at the airport?

GFH supposed to be staffed by volunteers. Why do they need a teaching hospital?

In theory, GFH aircrafts should be away from the home base most of the time. The airport will be idling.

ORBIS with over 35 year history, operate a DC-10 only. GFH without a track record claimed to have 3 737 and going to acquire 4 742 and 6 C-130.

It is just too many holes in this project to be convincing.

Before anyone knows it, they are going to expand the airport to be a hub for medial schools, medical evacuation, aviation medicine, etc.

I think this announcement is same like the announcement for over-land oil pipes between Yan, Kedah to Bachok, Kelantan.

......and nothing happened!

Which is good! :clapping:

I doubt it seriously that funding would be from the private sector.....it has got to come from most probably state linked corporations or the state gov. As always, something has to be built and some money has to be spent in order for some people to get rich. So the bigger the project the higher the cost.....Thats why build new is better than upgrading Ipoh or SZB..... :drinks:

Nonsense!!!

Why would Perak need an airport that can accommodate 744 in Sri Iskandar? My hometown is Ipoh and I would rather see Sultan Azlan Shah Airport being turned into something like Seletar - for general aviation, scheduled regional flight and maybe even MRO for bizjets. While XPS rwy measured only 1680m, IPH rwy measured approx. 1800m. That's more than enough for the purposes mentioned above.

What we should bear in mind is this are just political lies before the coming election. I dont see there's a need for such airport especially to accomodtae the B747

Sounds like another con job......

Yes, yes, prime candidate for con-job Grade A.

Lemme see ... 500-bed hosp. From my experience, normal hosp ballpark figure is like RM1.2mil per bed. So 500 beds = RM600mil already. But this one is hi-tech specialist hosp, whatever that is, so maybe RM1.5mil per bed => RM750mil already. Not much left to build a 747-ready airport, yes? Unless Bill Gates is in town and feeling charitable.

Malaysia to build world's first humanitarian airport

13:12, October 18, 2007

The world's first humanitarian airport cum emergency medical care and services terminal is to be built in Bandar Seri Iskandar, 40 km from Ipoh, capital city of Malaysian northern Perak state, local press reported on Thursday.

Casa Pasifik Sdn Bhd, the developer and management company of the project said it had secured money from an overseas humanitarian fund to pay for the construction, which is expected to cost 1 billion ringgit (294 million U.S. dollars).

Casa Pasifik Chairman Mohd Hilmi Ismail said he was waiting for the Transport Ministry to give the go-ahead for the project which has been in the planning stage for 18 months and would take 38 months to complete.

...

The airport will cater for large aircraft and helicopters equipped with medical facilities and surgical suites. It will have a 3,700-meter runway.

The hi-tech specialist hospital at the airport would have 500 beds, with 200 beds under the first phase.

The aircraft would be able to fly to war-torn countries or places where victims were injured due to natural disasters to provide treatment. If the victims need further treatment, they will be flown to the hospital at the airport, Hilmi said.

The project would create downstream activities, including a medical training center and a flying academy, he added.
