Hi all,

thanks for your messages . . . just touched down a short while ago on an SIA flight from London. All SQ flights from Europe were so fully booked out that the media coming back to Singapore and elsewhere in Asia were booked through just about every SIA stations in Europe for the connection to Toulouse. We were booked via London Heathrow Airport, which entailed a 1.25 hr bus transit to London Gatwick for the British Airways flight to Toulouse. Coming back, the same happened . . . and whilst the flights were very good - both on BA and especially on SQ, I cannot say the same thing of the experience on the ground in Toulouse.

Inspite of the enormity of this event, service and security staff made no secret how much they detest anyone who is not French . . . and our lady escort from SIA at one time nearly wanted to clobber the driver who was supposed to take us to Blagnac Airport for the flight back to LGW. At the press centre, any media person who so much as dared to feel thirsty and requested a drink had to first endure the scowl and rudeness of the two persons who "own" the drink stand - yes, even if your request is merely for a cup of water - you only get half a cup most of the time.

Security people too were works of art - even failing to understand, recognise or accept the blinking photography permit that was issued by them!!! Rules were invented on the spot and only when challenged do they take a step back to reconsider. Stupidity was taken to a fine art worthy of permanent exhibition in the Louvre Museum.

Anyway, back to happier things. These photos were taken on 14 October, the day before the actual handover.

The evening before, I had the opportunity to take this shot before it got truly dark.

Earlier in the afternoon, 9V-SKA was towed around - regrettably with the engine covers on.

The A380 in Airbus house livery (F-WWOW) was initially parked alongside 9V-SKA and when it vacated its spot, there was a chance to put both together in one picture.

MW-SIA-A380-003A.jpg

There was much interest in the Suites located on the A380's main deck - just 12 of these Suites in three rows of four in a 1-2-1 configuration. Although each offered more personal space than any other seat in the plane, it does not immediately come across as being that spacious. But when you lie comfortably in the bed, you will certainly feel the exclusivity. In this picture, two Suites in the middle of the cabin are configured into a double bad for a couple travelling together. Purely for this event, rose petals were strewn on the bed . . . not sure if this would be done if requested (for those wishing to copy this idea, BYOP - Bring Your Own Petals).

MW-SIA-A380-First-004A-Suites.jpg

Here the same two Suites are separately configured . . .the privacy partition in the middle can be raised to the same level as the rest of the Suite and locked in position.

MW-SIA-A380-First-002A-Suites.jpg

From the aisle outside the Suite, this is how it looks.

MW-SIA-A380-First-003A-Suites.jpg

The Business Class seat - already billed as the widest Biz Class seat in the sky onboard the B773ER - has been widened and re-contoured based on feedback from passengers who have flown on the B773ER. I must declare that I really liked these seats.

MW-SIA-A380-Business-001A.jpg

And in the Economy Class, it is not that different from the B773ER's cabin - just a greater sense of space. In this picture, the bulkhead seat with a bassinet is depicted.

For those who want a "mile" of legroom in Economy Class, try Row no. 80 on the upper deck. In a 2-3-2 configuration, all seven seats have extremely generous legroom - one hint, if you need to put your leg up once in a while, bring a bag that you could use to prop up your legs (unless you have legs the length of bamboo poles used for drying clothes in Asia).

Before the end of this first installment of pictures, I would like to share a shot of the cockpit . . . taken on the night of 14 Oct.

The A380 arrives later today at 1815hrs and will be receiving Changi Airport's first-ever water-canon salute. Andrew will be covering that location while I will wait anxiously at the runway for a touchdown shot.

Wow! She looks spotless in the first photo.

KC Sim, good coverage showing the interior. These photos are even better than those showing in SIA website ! :drinks: :clapping:

My favourite photo is the tail with another A380 behind! :yahoo: :drinks:

Thanks for sharing KC. The tyre mark of the A380 is impressive, literally. Does it mean the A380 will leave a such heavy mark on the tarmac wherever she goes?

Hey how come they're using a joystick instead of the usual controls, btw nice pics. she looks great ,the suites look comfortable but overly designed in a way if you know what i mean. :pardon:

Looks like luxury redefined with its suites. It is really amazing that "walls can actually be built within an aircraft.

Really look forward to the arrival photos.

Machaan...still playing Maple ah? (inside joke)

Anyways...all Airbus aircrafts (bar the A300 and A310 IIRC) use joysticks instead of yokes for flight control input...

The suites look absolutely awesome! Though, personally...I prefer the Business class seats...those look absolutely superb.

Cant wait for EK's trial at topping SQ's efforts.... *drools in excitement...*

Thanks, KC!!! :yahoo: For those exclusive photos. Superb! :good:

Nice one ... I was there too. Too bad ... she landed so late just 12 minutes prior to sunset. She actually arrived earlier but was put into holding pattern until 1840 to accommodate the delivery ceremony at T3.

Here's my shots from another angle. Frontal!
