Izanee 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Just read this on bernama.com... Singapore has concluded an open skies agreement which will allow carriers from Singapore to have unlimited flights to UK. Also they are allowed to fly unlimited destinations in the US from UK, as well as UK domestic flights. They can base aircraft in the UK for that purposes. Same for British carriers to Singapore. It comes almost two decades after singapore first requested it. hahaha.....when Malaysia decides to stop protecting MH, we might see this agreement. Otherwise - we will never become a hub. You just can't become one without open skies agreements.

BC Tam 2 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 (edited) if it happens....mh should be bitting their fingers What for ?! It's not like MH is flying LHR/JFK, nor do I see it likely that anyone within MH will try make that happen. And even if handed to them on a silver platter, don't expect them to make a success of it anyway (probably end up whinging about lack of protection/monopoly, unfair competition, high fuel costs, etc) Why go the extra mile and incur the consequential risk when it's so much easier and safer to just retreat under the proverbial coconut 'tempurung' and rule the whole kingdom there. Probably get paid the same at the end of the day anyway ! Yeah, you can say I share Izanee's sentiments - only that with advancing age, one gets a bit more uptight having heard similar excuses from years ago. Louis, it's biting their fingers btw ! BC Tam 2 Report post Posted October 5, 2007 That agreement must have gotten the US involved as well if unrestricted UK/US operations is included - expect some similar announcement between Singapore and the US soon ?
Keith T 2 Report post Posted October 6, 2007 That agreement must have gotten the US involved as well if unrestricted UK/US operations is included - expect some similar announcement between Singapore and the US soon ? SQ has had the rights to operate UK/EUR-US from the US side for a long time. But it also needed UK approval to operate out of the UK.

Izanee 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 MH is fighting with AK for scraps. KLIA as a hub will be affected. I know good ol' tony keeps saying that he will make KLIA into a hub - but if he flies to various places via the LCCT with NO facilities for checking through luggage - will the major airlines even consider flying here despite the higher passenger volumes? Forgive my simple mind but airlines are looking for connectivity - if you can't fly seamlessly from one end of the planet to the other - what sort of hub is it? I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea? AND it makes KLIA a LOWER yield destination as most of the traffic will now be from LCCs. That is not good if you want to attract airlines like BA, AF, NW, UA, NH and QF. And the winner in BOLEHLAND is not KLIA or MAHB (who were forced to lower fees for the LCCT) or the government (who have to build a NEW satellite terminal) - it will be good ol' Uncle Tony. That's all he's after. Don't give us crap on making KLIA a hub. We're not that stupid.
