Regarding Melaka's Airport

Recommended Posts

There will be a tender to be sent out for contractors to remove the trees.... A need to draft out the tender..... 1.5 months

Send out notice to the vendors about the tender, publish in the press..... 2 months

Go through the charade of the tender but awarding it finally to a crony who is related to Najib / Badawi / Mahathir / [feel free to insert anyone else from parliament] who never really participated in the tender... 6 months

So..... 1.5+2+6 = 9.5 months!

By the time a subcontractor is nominated for the trees removal, the trees have grown bigger and taller hence the subcontractor is entitled to claim for the variation :pardon:

Lame excuse. MAB tried to fool Ali Rustam that all new airports or new runway extensions, comes with grazing field, with no single tree. Therefore, when suddenly there were trees obstructing, that's a super-huge problem already and take many more months to chop them down. Funny is, if the MB bought it, how about those trees in Lojing? Does the people there took many months to chop down 1 tree too?

Upgraded Malacca airport to boost health tourism

By : Jason Gerald John

MALACCA: The newly upgraded airport at Batu Berendam is expected to receive 500,000 passengers within the next three years.

This figure is not far-fetched as the airport, which will be renamed Malacca International Airport by year end after a RM131.5 million upgrade, is targeted to boost the state as a hub for health tourism.

.....

Earlier, Ali, accompanied by Malaysia Airports Berhad managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid, received 26 tourists from Indonesia who arrived at the new terminal via Riau Airlines.

.....

"AirAsia will only operate from here in November when the full length of the runway, which measures 2,135 metres, is completed."

Ali added that there had been a request from AirAsia to privatise the Batu Berendam Airport similar to the Senai International Airport in Johor.

"AirAsia proposed to take over the operations of this airport and we have no problem with that.

.....

(1) So, 26 pax x 365 days x 3 years = 28,470 pax; substantially lower than the 500,000 expected, no ?

(2) AK will only operate when 2,135m runway is completed, current plan is for 1,800m runway; go figure

(3) AK want to operate MIA ? Is this pre or post Labu International Airport ?

LTBB dinaik taraf guna nama baru hujung tahun

.....

"Bagi menarik lebih ramai pelancong kesihatan ke negeri ini, kita akan mengadakan promosi di luar Melaka, selain berusaha meningkatkan keselesaan di LTBB termasuk penyediaan kawasan letak kenderaan khusus untuk menanti pesakit dan membina aerobridge(construction of aerobridge- my edit)," katanya.

So, another airport upgrade projek already on the way :)

Yea right.

1. Build aerobridges

2. Air Asia moves in.

Pandai.........(very clever)........ Then passengers can walk under the aerobridges.

Whatever it is, the tender must be out before the next GE of 2013 or earlier.

Funny how different tree in different states experience different fate. The ones in Malacca are allowed to stand but the one in Ipoh had been abused and probably chop down. :D

LTBB Expected To Begin International Flight Operations In Mid-january

MELAKA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Batu Berendam Airport(LTBB) here, is expected to begin operations for international flights in mid-January next year, said Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.

He said that the LTBB would be known as the Melaka International Airport after the inauguration by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak on January 15.

"With the inauguration by the Prime Minister, a new era will begin for this airport," he told reporters after the meeting of the Melaka State Assembly at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here, Thursday.

Mohd Ali hoped that budget airline AirAsia Bhd, would begin operations mid-January next year for flights from Melaka-Penang-Langkawi, Melaka-Penang-Jakarta and other international destinations such as Medan, Padang, Pekan Baru and Surabaya.

He also expressed the hope that Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will also start using the Melaka International Airport.

"I will also write to the Philippines budget airline,Cebu Pacific Air, to start using this airport," he said.

The project to raise the status of the LTBB is being undertaken by Konsortium Uni-Integrated to house a new 7,000 sq m terminal complete with various facilities to receive domestic and international flights.

The airport runway has been extended from 1,476 metres to 2,135 metres to enable Boeing and Airbus aircraft to land and take-off.

The process to enlarge and improve the airport costing RM131.5 million began on April 23, 2007 to provide facilities for health tourists, especially from Sumatera, which has now reached 60,000 annually.

The new LTBB terminal can handle 1.5 million passengers annually compared to just 300,000 previously. It has four counters for departures and six for arrivals for both domestic and international flights.

The LTBB also has two parking bays suitable for Boeing 734 aircraft and the Airbus 320.

MALACCA: The Transport Ministry has agreed to provide the Malacca International Airport several incentives to help spur its usage by air carriers.

This includes considering granting AirAsia rights to six destinations in Indonesia.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state hoped to see several low-cost carriers establish operations at the airport which would be officially opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Jan 15 next year.

Mohd Ali said he received a letter from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat on Thursday.

“He (Ong) said the airport will enjoy benefits under the Government’s incentives schemes to promote tourism in Malaysia,” he told reporters during a break at the State Legislative Assembly here Thursday.

This include a RM25 incentive for each incoming passenger for the first 12 months for new airlines flying to new routes or increasing flight frequency.

Another benefit is the RM10 to RM15 incentive for each incoming passenger after the period, depending on the performances of the air carriers.

Also included is a deferment of landing charges for three years and six-month rent-free office space for those setting up operations at the airport.

He also said the ministry would also consider AirAsia’s request to fly to six destinations in Indonesia once the governments of both countries concluded their air rights agreement.

Among the destinations AirAsia is looking at are Jakarta, Padang, Palembang, Pekan Baru, Medan and Denpasar.

Mohd Ali said Malaysia Airlines, its subsidiary Firefly and low-cost carriers from Indonesia and the Philippines had indicated interest in using the airport here.

Typical local politician, only hope without realization.
