CSA Czech Airlines (OK) will fire a third of its 300 pilots in the coming days and weeks as part of its restructuring plan.

According to Czech media, some of the 100 terminated cockpit crew members may be hired by CSA subsidiary Holidays Czech Airlines, but at significantly lower salaries. The financially troubled carrier posted a CZK632 million ($33.5 million) loss last year and is in need of an urgent restructuring plan. CSA said it will transfer up to 11 narrowbody aircraft to the leisure carrier.

According to its website, OK operates nine Airbus A319s, eight A320s, two A321s, eight Boeing 737-500s, four ATR-72s and seven ATR-42s.

East European airlines are not in very good stage now. LOT Polish, Adria Airways, Jat Airways and TAROM are all in red.

Czech Airlines is now in chronic stage all thanks to overly ambitious expansion plan by its ex CEO. They are dropping routes, spinning off and retiring aircraft like no tomorrow. Malev Hungarian Airlines is about to go belly up as well. airBaltic faces meddling from the government officials.......

LOS ANGELES, CA - For the fifth consecutive year, Korean Air has been rated as the best airline in Asia by readers of Business Traveler magazine.

The magazine's readers also ranked Korean Air’s advertising campaign the best in the business for the fourth year in a row.

"We are honored to be named best airline in Asia for the fifth consecutive year,” said John Jackson, Korean Air’s VP of Marketing for the Americas. "Korean Air is committed to providing travelers the most comfortable environment and attentive service. We’re happy that Business Traveler readers around the world are acknowledging that.”

Korean Air recently introduced A380 flights to Asia from JFK and LAX, and is America’s largest Asian airline, flying from more cities in the Americas to more destinations in Asia than any other carrier.

As for the global advertising, “The campaign is connecting to travelers,” says Connie Park, director of the Korean Air team at HSAd. “It’s sensual, chic, and stylish and has a bit of spice that’s creating attention to the brand.”

Jackson said Korean Air's ad campaign "reflects our progressive nature. We offer unparalleled service into Asia from the Americas and our advertising reflects this unique aspect.”

Korean Air's service has been recognized worldwide repeatedly. This year, Korean Air was awarded Best Airline in Northern Asia and Best Airport Staff/Gate Agent by Global Traveler magazine in its annual GT Tested Awards. Other publications like Conde Nast Traveler and Travel Leisure also have praised Korean Air’s service.

CAPA > Direct News Sources > SkyTeam Welcomes Xiamen Airlines

22nd November, 2012

21-Nov-2012 19th member strengthens SkyTeam’s #1 position in Greater China

SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, today welcomed China’s Xiamen Airlines as its 19th member. Xiamen Airlines is also the fourth member from Greater China. The airline strengthens SkyTeam’s footprint in China and its overall #1 position in the Greater China Region by adding three new hubs - Xiamen, Fuzhou and Hangzhou – combined with a comprehensive domestic and growing international network.

China’s sixth largest carrier, Xiamen Airlines is also one of the world’s most profitable, having posted positive financial results for 26 consecutive years. The airline flies more than 15 million passengers annually to more than 50 cities including Macau, Hong Kong and Taipei. Founded in 1984, it is headquartered in the coastal city of Xiamen in the dynamic province of Fujian. This area of China boasts a thriving and diverse industrial economy as well as a growing tourism market.

Xiamen Airlines’ fast expanding international network includes Southeast and Northeast Asia and the airline has announced plans to launch flights to Europe, North America and Australasia by 2014 after the introduction of the Boeing 787. SkyTeam membership offers Xiamen Airlines’ customers greater connectivity onto international routes from China operated by other alliance members. This includes carriers from the region: China Airlines, China Eastern and China Southern, and nine additional SkyTeam airlines: Aeroméxico, Aeroflot, Air France, Alitalia, Delta, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines.

“By joining SkyTeam, Xiamen Airlines opens up the world to its passengers. And today we also strengthen SkyTeam’s footprint in China,” said Michael Wisbrun, SkyTeam’s managing director. “Greater China remains a priority region for our alliance. Xiamen Airlines will join our members China Southern, China Eastern and China Airlines in developing customer-focused initiatives for the region.”

“Membership of SkyTeam will enable us to deliver enhanced customer benefits as we diversify and grow our network and this is key to the success of our new international routes,” said Che Shanglun, President and CEO of Xiamen Airlines. “Our passengers can anticipate exciting new destinations while we look forward to a future of cooperation with our alliance partners.”

In keeping with SkyTeam’s focus on enriching the customer experience, Xiamen Airlines has also started rolling out SkyPriority, SkyTeam priority airport services for SkyTeam Elite Plus, First and Business Class passengers worldwide. Effective immediately, Xiamen Airlines’ customers will be able to earn and redeem miles on services operated by all SkyTeam member airlines. Members of other SkyTeam airlines’ frequent flyer programs can also earn and redeem miles when flying on Xiamen Airlines-operated flights.

SkyTeam passengers traveling to China will be able to fly on Xiamen Airlines flights as part of SkyTeam’s Go Round the World and Go Greater China Passes, giving them even more options to enjoy flexible, cost-effective travel globally and throughout the region.
