SIA To Donate Proceeds From A380 Flight To Charities

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Singapore Airlines (SIA) will donate the proceeds from the sale of tickets on the first Airbus A380 flight from Singapore to Sydney and return in October to charities.

"In response to requests from people all over the world to be passengers on the first flight, SIA will auction the seats on global online marketplace, eBay," it said in a statement here today.

It said bids would be invited for seats on the history-making flight, and winning bidders would know that every dollar they pay would go to worthwhile charities.

"All customers will receive a personalised ceremonial certificate confirming they were part of the first-ever commercial A380 flight," it said.

SIA said it has secured the support from three partners for event.

"ExxonMobil Aviation will donate the fuel for the flights, eBay will subsidise the fees and charges from the auction and PayPal, a global leader in online payments solutions, will rebate a portion of its fees and charges to help support the charities," it said.

The airline said the proceeds of the auction would be split evenly among Singapore's Community Chest, the Sydney Children's Hospital (Randwick) and The Children's Hospital (Westmead) and to Medecins Sans Frontieres.

Hmm, interesting! Heard my dad talk about it, but never thought it's gonna be true! The CEO will likely to be onboard.

Auction at eBay........well, this gonna be tough!

A pretty good publicity move by SQ and the charities will gain S$2 million or more.

Anybody like to guess what the cheapest economy, business and firstclass seats will eventually go for?

wonder when MH will do something like that. may be its difficult since they cant even resolve ESOS disputes. haha.

wonder when AK will do something like that. may be its difficult too since they can't even provide basic facilities for the handicaps.
