Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 4 digit is most likely charter and not to handle the backlog A charter can handle a backlog of stranded passengers. A charter can also handle just carrying cars, cows, cargos. An extra flight will also carry a 4-digit number. And MH did operate an extra flight to Melbourne earlier this week to clear the stranded pax. And there are also lots of MH 4-digit extra flights this July and next month to DXB, KWI, BAH...and these are not charters as you can buy a seat on them as per normal scheduled flights. T Azahan 1 Report post Posted July 20, 2007 and it is a standard procedure for MH to uphold confidentiality when a plane is chartered by VIP. and the crew will have to execute undertaking document not to tell anyone. quite a number of prominent VIPs flew charter on MH. last time when the BBJ was still with MH, Elton John flew on it for his concert in Taipei. BBJ waited for him in SIN for his arrival in BA from LHR.

Sanjay Thaker 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2007 I think that's just naughty speculation. Isn't the 4-digit MH flight just an extra flight to cater to the backlog of stranded MH pax from missed connections? EXACTLY! Agreed there! Just because theres an extra flight with a 4 digit number does not mean that he hired it. Speculations are not too good without proper hard evidence. As far as i know, MH handles a lot of charter flights. The charter division is doing quite well. Besides, our PM travels on MH's scheduled flights often. So does the King and other Sultans or head of states. They have been on my dad's flights very often.

Peter Smith 1 Report post Posted July 22, 2007 Gavin, the only diversions of MAS flights in Australia anytime in the last few weeks was the MAS flight into Melbourne about 10days ago which due to fog ended up in ADL.

Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted July 23, 2007 from what i heard the other MH was diverted for some reason . The diversion was weather-related, diverted from MEL to ADL. Separately, MH did an extra flight to MEL for normal pax that were stranded due to various compounding problems.
H Azmal 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2007 (edited) A little offtopic, unconfirmed information - got it from a 'controversial' news-blog site. Some info about Pak Lah, he is in Australia. He was in Melbourne last Friday 20 July 2007. He was having dinner at Conservatory Restaurant, Crown Casino. I know because I work there. Conservatory is having a Malaysian Fest from 11 to 25 July. BBJ waited for him in SIN for his arrival in BA from LHR. Agree. I have a MAS Haj and Charter Brochure which mentions that, including Michael Jackson as well. Other services include Petronas in-flight product launch, military logistics, Swiss Alinghi Team (America's Cup) etc. Some of the interesting destinations based on the charter map as at 1 June 2006 are Diego Garcia, Pyong Yang, Midway Island, Tahiti etc etc. Wonder who chartered MAS to the military base in the Indian Ocean?! I guess to market MAS charter service, it has to masuk bakul angkat sendiri. (praising ownself) Edited July 24, 2007 by Rozhan
Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted July 25, 2007 Also, I think MH 734 charter has brought ex-Prez Bill Clinton from S'pore to Brunei (did the secret service sit in the cockpit too?) and perhaps also the Japanese emperor, from SIN to IPH?

BC Tam 2 Report post Posted July 29, 2007 Mr. Tam, was Pak Lah riding on the spanking new A319CRJ? Or the TUDM 737BBJ? I am (unfortunately) not privy to such info ! Only read something about it in online edition of Utusan Malaysia (failed to locate the link just now though) - something about his YAB being greeted by DPM upon arrival back in MY from 'honeymoon' in AU. Pic only revealed red carpeted steps behind him. Sorry, cannot be of further assistance

KK Lee 5 Report post Posted August 5, 2007 It should be coming soon, guys; already re-registered to 9M now: Airbus A319 -115X(CJ) 2949 9M-NAA Royal Malaysian Air Force delivery 03aug07 XFW-LGG-CHR-TLS ex D-AIDR This A319 is painted in RMAF colour but operating under civilian registration. Either the government don’t trust the RMAF or is privatising RMAF. Although the pm office controls the use of RMAF VVIP fleet, by removing A319 from RMAF inventory, Sultan and Agong can’t even request to use the A319. Effectively, A319 will be exclusively for the pm. With so much of hanky panky going on, guess there is nothing unusual or unconventional in this country anymore. Anyone like to guess what NAA stand for?
