Culinary delight takes flight

WOULD you pay RM5,888 for a plate of chicken rice?

The Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur is offering “The Most Expensive Chicken Rice in the World,” featuring a private plane trip to Ipoh, the birthplace of chicken rice and the adventure of a lifetime.

The luxurious package for two also includes a two-night stay in their executive suite, a tour of Ipoh Old Town and a good portion of authentic Ipoh chicken rice.

Following an airplane wing breakfast on the tarmac, guests on board a Trinidad four-seater aircraft will have with them a personal captain, under whose supervision they have the thrill of flying the aircraft themselves.

Passengers fly by Kuala Lumpur’s iconic Petronas Twin Towers before setting course over 200km of Malaysian tropical countryside to Ipoh.

Once they arrive, guests will be treated to Ipoh’s most famous home-grown dish, featuring free range chicken (better known locally as “village chicken”).

The chicken is prepared using an intricate hot and cold dunking method which helps it achieve its perfect succulence.

Ipoh chicken rice, a closely guarded recipe of the town folk, is accompanied by bean sprouts tossed with fragrant soy and garlic-oil sauce.

Ipoh bean sprouts are legendary for their thickness and crunchiness and cultivated using fresh water from Ipoh’s limestone hills.

For the excursion’s finale, guests drive through Ipoh’s charming old town which transports visitors back in time to the tin mining era.

They can also take a short stroll to the pomelo stalls for a taste of the bitter-sweet juicy fruit, to round up the authentic Malaysian experience.

Also included in the package is access to the Traders Club lounge, Subang International Airport transfers, complimentary late check-out and complimentary breakfast, beverages and evening cocktails, suit pressing, shoe shine and unlimited broadband Internet access.

The package, which ends on Dec 30, is subject to availability.

What a wonderful way of looking at a place and food in a new light. In an over-rated kinda way.
