Boeing Next-Generation 737-900ER Receives FAA Certification

 

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- The newest member of the Boeing Next-Generation 737 family, the 737-900ER (Extended Range), earned type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on April 20.

 

The 737 derivative incorporates an extra pair of exit doors to increase the maximum passenger capacity, a flat aft-pressure bulkhead to increase interior volume, a two-position tailskid for improved takeoff and landing capability, wing strengthening changes to accommodate the 13,500 pound maximum takeoff weight increase, enhancements to the leading and trailing edge flap systems for improved takeoff and landing capability, and optional Blended Winglets and auxiliary fuel tanks that increase the range of the 737-900ER to 3,200 nautical miles (5,925 km).

 

The airplane is certified to carry up to 220 passengers in a single-class configuration, Boeing said in a statement from Seattle Thursday.

 

On July 18, 2005, Indonesia's Lion Air launched the higher capacity, longer range Next-Generation 737-900ER with an order for 30 airplanes.

 

Airlines have ordered more than 100 Next-Generation 737-900ERs to date.

Boeing delivers first 737-900ER

 

Boeing Co. delivered its first 737-900 extended-range airplane to Lion Air.

 

The Jakarta, Indonesia-based airline was Boeing's first customer for the new plane, which can carry more passengers and fly farther than other 737s.

 

Lion Air to date has ordered 60 of the planes, which are built in Renton, Wash., from Chicago-based Boeing (NYSE: BA).

 

Eight customers have placed orders for 104 737-900ERs.

 

"With more range and the lowest operating cost of any single-aisle jet in its class, the 737-900ER will deliver superior economics and premier service to support Lion Air's strategic expansion plans," said Dinesh Keskar, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of sales, in a statement.

JT's first, and the worlds first 739ER is well and truly into its delivery. It is currently expected to arrive in SIN today ex- GUM at 1430, using rego as callsign.

The only explanation I can think of, is more so JT can hide it and allow the a/c to be flown in, perfectly in time with a ceremony at Jakarta being planned for its arrival. If it lands anywhere in Indonesia, then more than likely within minutes it will be all over the media.

Lion Air's first B737-900ER in dreamliner livery (PK-LFF) was seen at Singapore today enroute from Guam to Jakarta (29-4-2007). Spotters in KL, please look out for her... she may come in anytime!
