It's not so much as non stop flying than state of economy - Malaysia in the 80s is a different world than Malaysia in the new millennium. Plus we're stuck between a rock and a hard place: SIN & BKK.

 

KUL is a strategic location, it was never a problem. Only on the demand and marketing segment.

With alliances and codeshares that are possible nowadays, it's probably cheaper than for these european airlines to send their own metal over

Back in those 'olden days' it was the flag carrier's role to 'fly the flag' to as many foreign land and as far flung as possible - that was before money problems spoilt the party lah

Transaero Extends Seasonal Kuala Lumpur Operation till late-May 2012

Update at 0820GMT 26MAR12

As per 26MAR12 GDS timetable and inventory display, Transaero is extending seasonal Moscow Domodedovo – Kuala Lumpur service until the end of May 2012. The airline will maintain 1 weekly frequency from 25MAR12 to 26MAY12, on board Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Seasonal service to Singapore has already ended since 25MAR12.

Malaysia dan Rusia sedia menandatangani Perjanjian Penghapusan Separa Visa yang memudahkan pergerakan rakyat kedua-dua negara.
Wisma Putra dalam satu kenyataan hari ini, berkata Menteri Luar Datuk Seri Anifah Aman yang melakukan lawatan rasmi ke Rusia dari 9 hingga 11 Julai lepas telah mengadakan perbincangan dengan rakan sejawatannya Sergei Lavrov dan mereka berpuas hati dengan hubungan baik Malaysia dan Rusia.“Kedua-dua menteri mahu hubungan baik Malaysia-Rusia dipertingkatkan melalui pertukaran lawatan, termasuk lawatan rakyat kedua-dua negara itu. Dalam hal ini, kedua-dua menteri telah mengalu-alukan kesediaan menandatangani Perjanjian Penghapusan Separa Visa,” kata kenyataan itu.

Is there any Moscow-KL-Moscow flight by Transaero? I heard bout it last year if not mistaken but when i tried to do ticket search, cant find.

 

P/s. Note the mistake at the caption of the newspaper. File photo shows MAS aircraft on the KLIA runway. Clearly in the picture can see Transaero and the aircraft is not even on the runway.

According to the Transaero website; they no longer operating DME-BKK-KUL flight,and since the photo was 'file photo',it was taken while UN still operating that route.
