Radzi 2 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Heard somewhere that MH will lease 2 B734 in April and May this year for domestic sectors. This must be the replacement of the 2 that went north to become Nok. I will confirm this when official source becomes available.

Daljit Singh 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 (edited) Is B734 still in production? According to boeing's website, the B734 model has been phased out of production, the last B734 made was delivered to CSA Czech Air in yr 2000. Current 737 running model's are B737-600/700/800/900/900ER. Wonder when MAS will be replacing their 734's................. Rozhan 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 Regarding registration letters. What's the normal practice? Recycle it or retire it when the plane leaves (Malaysian) service? +++ If I recall correctly there was an AK B737 that reused a previous registration of an aircraft that was returned after its lease ended. Kenneth T 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2007 There's one thing that I think the management is not prudent of..does this lease out and lease in improves the profitability, taking into considerations of wear and tear, since Nok is a low cost carrier? MAS should consider replacing the B737400S since the fleet ageing. We know that MAS profitability has turns out better to be expected, meanwhile replacing the Fokker 50s is no longer an issue since the rationalisation plan has taken place....The management should consider if the A380s really fit into the airlines route....It's time they consider B787 and B748 that I believe wil suits the airline's network taking into considerations of the higher load from India and China...hope i am right:-)

Does that mean the B737-600/700/800/900/900ER have what airlines who owned the 734 want? The range, etc.. Of course they must have better range than the 734, I guess. What I mean is they are suitable to replace the 734? Sent two to Nok and lease another 2 as replacement??? (Pardon my ignorace) This is what I don't understand... Radzi 2 Report post Posted March 24, 2007 Guys, let me clarify a few thing here. MAS used to own all the B737-4H6 that it flies. During Tajuddin Ramli's time he got a "brilliant" idea; he sells some of those aircraft to some leasing company. Then immediately he lease it back for 5, 7, whatever years. Luckily he didn't managed to sell all those aircraft before he got booted out. Whatever still owned by MAS then were transferred to PNB, so you see, PNB doesn't own all MAS aircraft. Now after X years the lease ends, and the leasing company lease them to others, such as Nok. Highest bidder probably. Nothing that MAS can do except they have to lease in aircraft from somewhere. BTW, MAS used to own the catering business as well, but as you guess it, sold of by that Tan Sri. Now whatever LH Skychef want to charge, MAS has to pay as it is not their own company anymore. Thanks a lot, Tan Sri. Pak Lah is Mr Clean, you are Mr Cleaner. You clean up the asset of the company.
