You're right,Edwin. If the Kuching AFB is relocated to other suitable place, then maybe we can see KCH-T2 complex (in dream)

I've noticed it too, during my flight back to Sibu on last Dec 20th.Don't have any ideas about it.But if i'm not mistaken, gate 5 is now using dual gate system, maybe for the A330s.

Yeah true in our dreams for a terminal 2....... sighs sad for KIA....

Yeah Gate 5 has dual gate system mainly for servicing A330s but on monday i saw a MAS b734 using it hehehe. Basically we have 4 gates with dual docking system namely Gates 5, 7, 8 and 9.

Wonder in how many years time will they really move the airport <_<

But now I just hope there would be more airlines serving here so there will be more action!!

I have come to believe that there will be an LCCT built at KCH in the near future. It will be adjacent to the existing terminal and alongside the new taxiway and runway extension. The KCH AFB will remain where it is. Announcements to be made in the not too distant future.

Oh I forgot, this is in Sarawak - the ink on Global Upline's contract probably already dried !

Only this time, they will get the job done in 6 months or less !

MAB in Kuching work hard and get more airlines to serve this city!!! Government too!!!!

Oh really  i didn't realize about it.Thanks for the notification,Edwin.

You're right about it.KCH used to have international routes to PER (an alternative for Sarawakian who studies in Western Australian City of Perth, instead of heading to KUL) and also FRA (Thanks to the brilliant idea of former State Minister of Tourism,Datuk Seri Abang Johari Tun Openg a.k.a. Abg Jo and also the Sarawak Tourism Board). But now it's gone. But flights to HKG and Mainland China (via BKI) is still running, and not to forget Batavia Air who operates flight from West Kalimantan city of Pontianak, and also Silk Air who operates SIN-KCH-SIN v.v. codeshare with MH & SQ.

Adjacent to the existing terminal? I don't think so  :nea: The space at the Main Terminal Complex is limited. I know that Kuching AFB had been established during the British crown colony era (1946-1963) where it's a former RAF base.

this is the airside work ( runway and taxiway )

as we all know, runway 2 is close for maintenance to accomodate the new Airbus 380. Among the works are to repair the center part of the runway ( keel section ) and taxiway ( C1 and C2 ) and to widen the runway and taxiway. According to main con, they will hand it hand it over by 15/2/2007. The runway is open though for narrow body aircraft to take off.

Here's the photos as of last Saturday, 27/01/07

this is the keel section of the runway..the upper layer of the runway will be peeled of and then new layer of PMA ( polymers modified asphalt ) will be lay on top of it

Thanks for the pictures, Fairul.

Wonder why the finished (?) section of the runway surfaced is not grooved like the original surface. The grooved runway surface was really good during wet and slippery condition.

normally, runway will only be groove after six weeks period...so enough time for the asphalt concrete to hardened....but for this case, the Datuk2 of MAHB agreed that the runway 2 will be groove after this whole upgrading work completed...( 6-7 more months)

In your pic of the "widening works of the runway"...i notice an IL76....

yerp, Imran, its IL-76..managed to snap it ( sorry, dirty lense)

I've been used C27 and C37 for my past trips and I believe both situated at the end of each branch, am I right? I know that CX utilise C37 as their fav. gate, guess they hv to move in near future ;) Thanx for the picture as well :good: This expansion will be permanent or they are still considering new location?

Looks like it is the current LCCT with some expansion in the international section and at the domestic arrival... the light green is the current terminal, while the darker green is the proposed expansion... looks like the warehouse terminal is set to stay...

No problem. Heard few locations for the permanent lcct...one is near the bunga raya ( any more spaces?) ..the current empty space for the Sat 2 building and maybe....they have to let go the observation hill for the new permanent lcct (bad news for Norman n the other spotters geng )..but nothing is concrete on this matter..will keep u guys updated on this..:)

Terminal Work

C17- The wiring work still in progress. The new target date for handing over of the lounge to MA(Sepang) is somewhere around end of March. Was informed by the contractor that the carpet work will start this 15/3...

DSC05967.jpg

the new fixed bridge of C17. ..taken from the existing fixed bridge

DSC05968.jpg

the passenger level (sorry..blur)

DSC05969.jpg

a very space constraint area for me...with three x-ray machines clustered together there..and with little area for entering the lounge..expect huge crowd there.. not to mention theres a lift and two escalators right infront of the lounge's door..

DSC05970.jpg

the so called lane for the premium passengers..MA(Sepang) agrees that door will be install at the main entrance for this lane..(sorry again ...blur.)

DSC05972.jpg

the fixed bridge for C17..this will connect to the passenger boarding board ( the aerobridge)

MAS new hangar - This is not in my job scope actually, but went there to meet up the engineers on few matters. Managed to snap the progress. The Resident Engineer told me that the roof will be jack up this coming 23/3. Only will be jack up for 10m at first. To jack it to 10m high will take at least 3-4 days.

P2280063.jpg

P2280001.jpg

a very big hangar i must say..

P2280064.jpg

the apron for the hangar...made of PQC ( pavement quality concrete. ) can withstand very huge load from big planes...
