I wonder why QR is still sending 332 to KUL :nea:

they choose frequencies over capacities. the tag on DOH-KUL-HKT flight, for KUL-HKT sector, the load seems light.thats why QR still sending A332 to KUL

I am not sure what is the difference between QR's A332s and 77Ws. However, from a noise perspective, the A332 is the quieter aircraft.

I am not sure what is the difference between QR's A332s and 77Ws. However, from a noise perspective, the A332 is the quieter aircraft.

QR's 77W equipped with more J class seats compared to their A332/A333 that they deploy to KUL. Last trip went back to DOH through SIN and the J class was full (which SIN is obviously a financial and business hub). I like A332/A333 which is bit quieter but the QR's IFE box is quite big compared to their 777s which is slim.

It makes sense that SIN gets an aircraft with bigger J class.

Once QR starts their 21 weekly services to KUL, the total capacity will be more than that deployed to SIN, I am sure. Plus, you get more choice of flights which will rival EK.

Will Qatar Airways fly their 787 to KUL anytime soon?? Any thought on this :D

my wild guess would be next year, QR need to replace their first batch of A332 soon, its so outdated!!

I have mixed feelings for their 787, its in 3-3-3 configuration in Y with 16.9' ! Even Al-Baker proudly claimed that his new 787 Economy Class is one less seat per row than competitors on other wide body aircraft. :lazy: . He compared his new 787 to EY and EK's 777? hahaha

Tell him MH 737 has four less seats per row (compared to 10-abreast 777).

KUALA LUMPUR: Qatar Airways will provide three flights daily on its Kuala Lumpur-Doha route instead of the current twice daily.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said this would provide customers with more travel options to Doha and better connectivity to the carrier's 118 leisure and business destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Qatar Airways fleet update

Speaking at an event to celebrate its inaugural scheduled London-Doha service using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Qatar Airways’ CEO Akbar Al Baker ran the collected media through the carrier’s future fleet plans.

Al Baker confirmed that the upper deck of the A380 will be fitted with eight seats in first class - the only aircraft in the next three years that Qatar will fit with first class - and 52 business class seats, along with a lounge area and a small economy section.

The entire main deck will be economy class, meaning there will be a very desirable economy section in the nose section, where the aircraft is quietest, making a total of 517 seats on the aircraft. Qatar Airways has ten A380s on order with a further three options, but Al Baker said that ten should be sufficient.

A380-800_EA_QTR_V02.jpg

Speaking about the A380 layout of future Oneworld partner British Airways, Al Baker said: “British Airways has a different strategy. They serve different markets and our passenger requirements are different. BA has a very nice interior on their airplane. We do not require that large a number of business class passengers. Britain is a very important trading country so there is a big demand for business travel, which is not the case with us.”

Al Baker also said that due to the delays to the B787 programme Qatar has invested in an extensive upgrade programme to its A330s in order to extend their time in the fleet by at least three more years. Both cabins will be fitted with new seats and an upgraded Panasonic in-flight entertainment system will be installed.

Qatar Airways is also scheduled to receive its first A350-900 aircraft between the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2015.

800x600_1166478480_A350800_Qatar_hr.jpg

Speaking about the carrier’s growth policy, Al Baker said:

“As far as Qatar Airways is concerned we will continuously keep on upgrading our product regardless of the economic situation around the world, because we never want to be left behind.”

“At the same time whatever developments we do it takes time, it doesn’t just happen. Just giving the example of revamping our A330s, we started the programme nearly a year ago and we will not get the first refurbished A330 until the last quarter of next year.”

Qatar will also fit the majority of its existing A320 aircraft and the forthcoming A320neo aircraft with 12 newly developed 180 degree sleeper seats in the front of the cabin, to cater for flights within a five-hour radius of Doha.

This is an attempt to maintain a consistent product across the Qatar fleet, even when passengers are transferring from wide-body to narrow-body aircraft, says Al Baker. The A320s will be upgraded in terms of connectivity, an upgraded Panasonic in-flight entertainment system and the seats.

Qatar operates its A320s on routes of around five hours to destinations throughout eastern and central Europe and east Africa, such as Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Nairobi and Kigali.

A320neo_QTR_V02.jpg

Qatar Airways plans to open at least 14 new routes over the next year, including regional UK destinations, although this depends on future aircraft deliveries.

Qatar Airways currently has orders worth over US$50 billion for more than 250 aircraft, including Boeing 787s, 777s, Airbus A350s, A380s and A320 family of aircraft.

Qatar Airways to increase flights to Msia (Update)

Thursday, 8 January 2015

DOHA: Qatar Airways will be increasing the number of flights to Malaysia to four times daily from three currently later this year.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said Malaysia was an important market and that he did not expect demand for flights to be impacted by the MAS and Indonesia AirAsia tragedies last year.

As far as were concerned, only one of them was an accident, which was Indonesia AirAsia (last month), he told reporters on the sidelines after the Doha-based airline company revealed its first A350 XWB aircraft yesterday.

Regardless, people still need to fly. We will increase the number of flights to four per day to Malaysia later this year, Akbar said.

He said the number of air accidents in East Asia was still one of the lowest in the world.

If you look at the Far East, there are thousands of planes flying and the rate of accidents there is one of the lowest in the world.

In light of the MH370 incident in March last year, whereby the plane was yet to be found, Akbar revealed that Qatar Airways was collaborating with a partner to ensure that it could track its planes throughout the entire flight.

We are currently exploring this possibility. We are working with a supplier (that we cant disclose) where all flight data that is recorded on the black boxes of our aircraft can be received on the ground.

We are hoping that once this tracking capability is proven, it will be incorporated by other airlines as well.

On March 8, MH370 vanished en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

Separately, Akbar said Qatar Airways would not be reducing its ticket prices despite lower fuel prices at the moment.

There will be no reduction in prices but there will be a reduction in fuel surcharge. Fuel is just one of the costs of an airline. Its not 100% of the cost, he said.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has taken delivery of the worlds first Airbus A350 XWB, which is part of the airlines initiative to improve its passenger experience.

The aircraft, which will be deployed on its Doha to Frankfurt route from Jan 15, is the first of 80 A350 XWB that the airline has ordered.

We want to be a five-star airline offering the best level of service in the sky, Akbar said, adding that Qatar Airways would be deploying the future A350 XWB aircraft to its US, Europe and Asian routes.

The aircraft boasts 36 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, while the economy class comprises 247 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.
