QF A380 accident was uncontained engine failure. It really showed how robust A380 was. The grounding only involved RR-powered A380 and not all A380.

I think only QF grounded their aircraft pending investigation. SQ continued to fly them.

 

We also need to bear in mind the number of incidents on the B787 in relation to operating fleet. With so few B787s delivered, the number of incidents is comparatively high.

I think Mr Leahy need be reminded there are a few more 380s that need to come in to have wings fixed :)

Plus there is this new 350 platform that is being polished up for entry into service

Boeing's response, if any, will be interesting (to say the least) :)

If not mistaken B787 has had quite a few mid air returns in its short history up till now.

Airbus will fix the cracks. As for MAS A380, Airbus could not allocate the slots as agreed this year, most probably MAS A380 will be rectified next February.

When things are rushed...little incidences will occurs. And when these incidences are not rectify on current and future planes, it becomes a major defect, which is potentially dangerous.

Boeing 787 Hit by Setback With Fire-Extinguisher Wiring Flaw

 

Boeing Co. (BA)’s 787 Dreamliner suffered a fresh setback after ANA Holdings Inc. (9202), the model’s biggest operator, said it discovered wiring defects in the fire-suppression system on three aircraft.
The fault, first detected on a 787 due to depart Tokyo’s Haneda airport today, would trigger the wrong extinguisher in the event of a blaze in one of the two engines, ANA said. Japan Airlines Co. recalled a 787 flying to Helsinki from Tokyo as a precaution, and Boeing said it was investigating the flaw.

Air NZ’s new 787-9 completes first test flight

Air New Zealand's much-delayed 787-9 Dreamliner has finally taken off, completing its first test flight from a Seattle, Washington airfield.

 

The new aircraft flew the Seattle skies in preparation for its handover to Air New Zealand, expected in July.

 

Air New Zealand is the launch customer for the Boeing 787-9. Ten of the stretch versions of the original Boeing 787-8 are on order.

 

The planes were first expected to be ready for the airline in late 2010, but the 787 programme has been plagued by delays.

 

Boeing has said the 787-9 will offer more space, light, go further and offer greater fuel efficiency.

 

Air New Zealand has previously said the new plane would first be launched on the Auckland to Perth route from October 15, after pilot training.

 

Routes to Tokyo and Shanghai from Auckland are expected to launch near the end of the year.

 

This first test flight, known as a B1 flight, included the two pilots who put the aircraft through its paces to verify performance. Functionality of the cabin was also assessed during the flight.

 

The aircraft, in its black with silver fern and koru livery, departed from Paine Field airport north of Seattle at 1.45pm local time.

 

The 787-9 reached an altitude of 11,800 metres and returned to the same airport 3 hours and 10 minutes later.

The back end look very smart but the lack of colour at the front spoils this scheme for me.

 

What a beautiful colour scheme for the B787. The key to livery is consistency across all fleet. :acute:

Oh really!? :rofl: I think it looks more like dog's breakfast now for a certain airline. Last counted 4 liveries (including an old one)!

Boeing 787-9 receives FAA, EASA certification
FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have certified the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for commercial service.
Each agency granted Boeing an Amended Type Certificate for the 787-9, certifying the design complies with aviation regulations and is safe and reliable. To earn certification, Boeing said it undertook a comprehensive test program with five aircraft and more than 1,500 hours of flight testing, plus ground and laboratory testing.
“Certification is the culmination of years of hard work and a rigorous flight-test program that started with the 787-9's first flight last September,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner said. “With this validation that the airplane is ready for commercial operations, Boeing—along with our airline and leasing customers—now look forward to introducing the newest member of the Dreamliner family to passengers around the world.”
FAA also granted Boeing an Amended Production Certificate, validating that the Boeing production system can produce 787-9s that conform to the design.
The US manufacturer said it is now in the final stages of preparing for the first 787-9 delivery to launch customer Air New Zealand.

Flew the GE powered 787 of Hainan Airlines last October, but didn't feel that it was noticeably quieter. Just the same as the A380 perhaps!?

Around the ballpark of A380 I guess. Flew BI's 787 KUL-BWN-BKI. Noticeably quieter than the 772 and A333.
