Naim 6 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 Today afternoon I was at BB Salak Tinggi on business and as I passed by KLIA, decided to do impromptu spotting. The sky was turning grey, and as I parked my car on the roadside, suddenly this lady decided to drop from the heaven. 131106, 1510hrs. City of Guayaquil, PH-BFG. The sky could have been better! +++

Norman 1 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 Naim... Good catch.... but weather didn't do justice to the 400D+Tamron Join us from 'the spots' ... don't have to wait till transfer of ownership of the piece of land....

Good catch.... but weather didn't do justice to the 400D+Tamron Join us from 'the spots' ... don't have to wait till transfer of ownership of the piece of land.... Thanks, Norman, will do one day, weather permitting. Slithering snakes notwithstanding. Btw, regarding the KLM plane, I find the name 'Guayaquil' curious. It is the largest city in Ecuador, and apart from being KLM's destination, is there anything special between Guayaquil and the Netherlands in general, to deserve the naming of a major plane? I guess Pieter will have to take this one up. +++

Naim 6 Report post Posted November 14, 2006 This is a nice diagram how vortices are formed at the ends/tips of wings. I guess for the trail to be seen, there must be compression of sufficient water vapour in the air (by the vortices) to produce the white-ish lines. Side effect: downwash and upwash regions which can endanger a smaller craft. Good physics!
