TOP 100 AIRPORTS 2005

Recommended Posts

Hey guys..this is what we've been waiting for... :) This answers some of KLIA's greatest critics that think it is a white elephant. While we are way behind SIN and BKK, we are ahead of many important cities worldwide - MAN, ZRH, VIE, BOM, DEL, JNB, IST, etc. that attract so many different airlines. We are doing okay with the 50 airlines or so that fly here compared to BKK's 80 odd, IST's 120 and SIN's 70.

Selected TOP 100 airports worldwide.

i know ATL would be on top, afterall it is the world busiest airport, with up to 4 departure and arrival in one minutes.

Different people have different opinion. I wouldn't count on this ranking entirely. Neither would I count on Skytrax/Skytrash award. :)

KUL made it to the top 50s. Next, top 40s. One block at a time, lots of time and opportunities ahead. :good:

KLIA contact pier and satellite terminal was designed for 25m ppa.

Does it mean KLIA has reached it’s capacity? MAB is supposed to construct the second satellite terminal 2 to 3 years before 25m ppa is reached. Are they executing it?

Believe the KLIA figure is cooked like other Government statistics.

If pax figure at KLIA is correct (i.e. doing excellently well), why is that MAB is not paying concession fees to the Government for a number of years and the Government is contemplating to take MAB private?

Somehow figures just don’t add up.

Yeah, it's cool to see 4 different aerotrains line up by each other to 4 different destinations, oh boy, when can we see these days <_ anyway does it really design to handle or more src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_pardon.gif" alt=":pardon:">

9. AMS 44.1 (PIETER WILL BE HAPPY WITH THIS)

Yeah, not bad for a country not even 15 million ?

Just suppose the same percentage (300%) applies for ATL versus the USA: how many millions would ATL have in that case ?

top 5 will always be top 5. very difficult to break them apart. but if haneda and narita were under one roof, then tokyo can claim number one spot.

SV choong...what do you mean about not believing the rankings? Isn't it from a reputable source?

Reputable source isn't everything. I believe SV meant "prepare to scrutinise and critic anything". Take Skytrax for e.g. It's reputable? Ermm...maybe yes, maybe no. First of all, look at the credibility of those who vote - does EVERY pax vote? Definitely not. Are all of the voters neutral? Definitely not again - some are biased. Does the voters on Skytrax then represent the entire flying community? Heck no!

Rankings should only be used as a guide - it's not something definite, 100% true. In this top 100 airport case, think of how the figures were obtained and do all of them refer to the same thing - it may well not be the case!

Izanee, hope it didn't offend you in anyway. Tony has summed up what I think above. Thanks Tony.

KLIA's performance is generally due to the growth and expansion of AirAsia. Whilst there are a number of new airlines and frequecnies into the airport, there are a similar number of dropuouts and frequency reductions. AirAsia is spearheading KLIA's growth.. and technically, with the LCCT, KLIA is built for capacity of 35 million pax. (25 million for MTB and Satellite A, 10 million for LCCT)

don't worry SV! ... i was just wondering what that meant. I'm sure that the figures do add up. KLIA's growth so far has not been what was anticipated...we are well away from the 25 million target set by the government. It is obvious that the growth is driven by Air Asia - and with MH's frequency and destination reduction - the growth will definitely be slower this year.

Well, instead of relying on MH and AK as KLIA's backbone of growth, why can't we think outside the box and ATTRACT other airlines to use our airport? Make it a hub for some new startups, perhaps?

Everyone talks about "Yield", and apparently, Malaysia doesn't have enough O&D traffic and is not attractive to airlines for use as a transit hub..

That's a valid and important point. KLIA isn't as competitive as Changi - haven't our reps sent to "observe" these sorta things figured out what KLIA is lacking? Or are they plainly wasting taxpayer money to have a great time overseas? :nea:

Tony, the latter reason you mentioned is highly probable!

The problem in Malaysia is the big boss see's the need to compete with Singapore and says "we must compete with Singapore, we must do this, we must do that, this way or that way.. some way lah, but it must be done!".. then they sit back, hand those instructions over to the "aspiring bosses" or the managers and executives who are of the "yes sir, yes sir, 3 bags full", who then sit on their arse or do things in a haphazard or improper manner and taking the local Malaysian industry 2 steps back from what was supposed to propel industry forward.. and their reasoning is quite simple - They aren't gonna cop it from the public when "s#1t happens".. the tai-kor is!!!!! And then he will be removed or he will resign, and one of THEM will become his position and they will repeat exactly what he did... EGO TRIPS! This is the biggest problem with management in the country... across all aspects in fact.. a gross mismanagement.. The leaders can say we must do this and this and have this and that, but they must provide GUIDANCE and be EAGLES overlooking the whole operation, not just talk talk wun! The people at the top have vision. The people on the other end, share in that vision (because it means rewards for them if it works out), but the people in the middle are the ones who couldn't give a damn! - and they have their reasons..

Anyway.. this has to change before we in Malaysia can experience air traffic like our northern and southern neighbours..

Doesn't this apply for the A380 order as well ???

(Because 'they' ordered the plane, 'we' also had to)...

:sorry: OT and had to be placed in the "MH should cancel the A380" topic :sorry:
