Seng Lim 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Latest breaking & shocking news from Fanborough Airshow! Farnborough: SIA shocks the air show by ordering 20 Airbus A350s, nine further A380s By David Kaminski-Morrow in Farnborough Singapore Airlines has signed a letter of intent to purchase 20 Airbus A350 XWBs and a further nine A380 aircraft. The carrier’s agreement, revealed at the Farnborough air show, also includes options on another 20 A350s and six further A380s. Deliveries of the A350s – which will be the -900 version – will begin in 2012 and run to 2014. The additional A380s will be delivered from late 2008 and run to 2010. No engine selection has been given for either type. The value of the agreement for the 29 firm aircraft is put at $7.5 billion. SIA revealed last month that it would acquire 20 Boeing 787-9s and placed options on another 20. Source : Flight International

Raymond Ngu 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Really shocking news I always think that SIA wouls acquire B787. However, a great start to the A350 XWBs programme. Also good news for spotters as we'll get 19 A330-300 in SIA colour scheme for almost 2 years .

Isaac 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) Didn't SIA sign a MoU to purchase B787 earlier in the year? I thought they have ordered a few just last week ? Or the week before ? Anyway, i heard they will operate both planes. The B787-9 and A350-900XWB. By the way, can any of you here tell me more about the seat width for B787-9 and A350-900XWB ? If i'm not mistaken, the latter one is wider but still narrower than 777, right ? Thanks in advance Congrats to Airbus. I always love the 333, good to know that SQ will operate that type one day (I guess it's the end for SQ 772 ... soon ) By the way, just check it ... SQ did order the B787-9 ... The B787-9 and A350-900XWB, different category aircraft ... Singapore Airlines has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase 20 Boeing 787-9s, with purchase rights for another 20 of the same aircraft. At current manufacturer catalogue prices, the value of the 20 firm aircraft is US$ 4.52 billion. Deliveries will be scheduled between early 2011 and mid 2013, and will be for fleet renewal as well as to cater for growth. The decision to purchase the 787-9 is the culmination of an extensive evaluation of the performance characteristics and operating economics promised for the different versions of Boeing’s new 787 aircraft. The –9 is the newest version on offer, and has the largest cabin and longest range. In a standard three-class configuration, it can carry between 250 and 290 passengers. It also has space for about 20 tonnes of cargo, and will have a range of 8,600 to 8,800 nautical miles (15,900 to 16,300 kilometres). Singapore Airlines plans to deploy the aircraft on routes to North Asia, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Apart from its extensive use of composites and advanced technology, which will enhance operating efficiency, the 787 will enable Singapore Airlines to further its commitment to innovation and improvement in providing service, comfort and entertainment to customers. The engines to power the aircraft will be selected at a later date. Singapore Airlines will be able to fund the acquisitions by cash flow generated from airline operations. LeeCH 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2006 Looks like I can finally realise my dream of being a jockey on the A330-300. My dream plane ever since MH used them while I was still in school. But looking more like serving turn around flights in South East Asia and Indian routings. Since this is the case, thanks but no thanks yah boss! I will stay on 777. Got electronic checklist. Cross your fingers until the final deal is sealed. Nothing is firmed yet.

TW Teo 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2006 TERRORIST ATTACK DESTROYED AIRBUS FACILITIES AT TOLOUSE That was totally uncalled for Yeah, all new planes sold must be a Boeing, nothing but Boeing right? Boring betul... Airbus has been hinting on this all week at Farnborough, since SQ mentioned that they will fly a mixed fleet and 'only' ordered 20 787s... Credits where credits due, Airbus learned from their mistakes and listened to their customers and they deserved this. Let the best plane win.
