China Airlines Plane makes emergency landing

Recommended Posts

July 19, 2006

A China Airlines flight from Ho Chi Minh city to Taipei was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Taiwan on Wednesday after a drunken passenger tried to attack crew members, media and a company official said.

"It was a case of a passenger behaving inappropriately after consuming alcohol," said Johnson Sun, a spokesmen for Taiwan-based China Airlines. Sun denied media reports that it was a hijacking.

Cable television channel TVBS said the passenger tried to attack crew members on the plane, forcing the pilot to stop in Kaohsiung.

The plane made an emergency landing at Hsiaokang Airport near Kaohsiung in the south, Sun said, adding that none of the passengers on board were injured aboard the flight.

i wonder if there's any handcuffs on board for unruly people like him! sigh!

For flights to/from US destinations, the pilots will have guns. On certain routes, Air Marshall were place. Dunno if this apply to Asia/European and Africa.

But in our 777 fleet (if I'm not mistaken), there are handcuffs onboard in the cockpit if something should go wrong

So pilots doing from/to US destination will have gun training? It's kinda weird thinking a pilot operating a gun LOL

From CNN, it stated, the comm. pilots will be train under Special Weapons And Tactics(SWAT). Talked to AA 757 pilot, he said he carries a gun every flight except when he's a pax :)

Is there any MH pilots fly for LAX route? Do they need to have gun.

QF and SQ have AM, what about MH? :p

Luckily nobody onboard, so the China Airlines's baby flew to it's original destination after that?

Still prefers the Japanese drama "Good Luck" with Kimu-taku and Shibasaki Kou anytime.

BTW, being an Air Marshall must be one of the most boring and yet dangerous job.

The incident involved a US-citizen of Vietnamese descent travelling with his wife. Police says he may be suffering from mental disorder as psychiatric medication are found in his bags.

Although the matter was initially treated as a criminal arrest, he was brought to the hospital and subsequently admitted to the hospital. Prosecutors have not decided whether or not to press charges, and will most likely wait several days for expert opinion.

It is not certain if it is due to excessive alcohol or mental condition. The incident began whilst the a/c was still in Vietnamese airspace. Passengers interviewed by TV said they thought it was a spousal argument initially. But it got violent when the man broke the arcylic panel of a cabin window. He continued to show violent behaviour and was subsequently restrained by a male steward with the help of 2 crewmembers. He came under control after being restrained by belts and plastic cuffs.

CI was quick to point out that that their cockpit doors are bullet-proof and can only be opened by certain PIN code.

CI also said that the captain neither declared a hijacking nor used a codeword for "hijack" in its communication with KHH ATC. The captain decided to land in KHH instead of TPE. Whether deliberate or in the rush to broadcast the breaking news, local media wrongly reported it as hijacking. And that was picked up by the world's media.

This is a second serious incident involving violent passenger for CI. Last year, a passenger travelling to USA on a flight inbound into TPE attacked a F/A. He subsequently stopped and returned to his seat as if he was hynoptized. He was arrested upon arrival and it was reported by Taiwanese police to the FBI because intelligence sources say terrorists are using mind-control techniques on individuals to become attackers programmed to strike at a certain time.

Another incident involved a singer travelling in First Class who attacked crew, unzipped his pants and urinated on the seats and fellow passengers. He was sentenced to 4mths jail, which was commuted to 2year good behaviour bond.
