Naim 6 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Tuesday August 1, 2006 Malaysia’s third national airline takes to the skies News Update by STEPHEN THEN of The Star MIRI: Malaysia’s third national airline - Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) - soared into the skies Tuesday, pledging to deliver efficient flight services to some 700,000 people at low-cost fares despite the frequent fuel price hike. FAX, with its headquarters in Miri, will connect all the rural sectors in Sarawak and Sabah with major cities and towns in the two states. It is offering a two-week promotional fare of RM9.99 for all destinations for the next two weeks. Chief Executive Officer Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali, who witnessed the airline’s first flight from Sibu to Miri at 9.40am (0140GMT), said the airline will stay true to its tagline of “affordable accessibility†and will keep its fare as low as possible. “FAX will operate 343 flights this week. It will have its headquarters in Miri and will serve some 700,000 people throughout Sarawak and Sabah, particularly in the rural areas. Malaysia's third national airlines Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) began its first flight Tuesday flying between Sibu and Miri with a full load of 50 passengers. - Starpic by Stephen Then “We will be a responsible airline and will fulfil our social obligations by providing low-cost fares with efficient services and at the same time increase our passenger- load so that we will become a commercially viable airline. “Once our operations have settled in this two states, FAX will look at expanding to destinations in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area,†he told a press conference. http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...4757&sec=nation
S V Choong 4 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Head quarter is in Miri...... Not BKI I wonder how well the BIMP-EAGA thing will prosper. After all these years since it was first conceptualised, it is literally next to nothing!
Naim 6 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Head quarter is in Miri...... Not BKI I wonder how well the BIMP-EAGA thing will prosper. After all these years since it was first conceptualised, it is literally next to nothing! Reminds me of Ting's Saeaga Airlines. SAEAGA AIRLINES: Grounded Due to Operating Costs ------------------------------------------------ Saeaga Airlines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of listed Ekran Bhd controlled by tycoon Ting Pek Khiing, has suspended its operations due to high operating costs. Saeaga director William Lau told BT on Monday that the company had also deferred its earlier plan to buy a fleet of jets. But he said there was no plan to sell the company as Saeaga planned to resume its service when the economic crisis is over. Saeaga, which has three aircraft, previously serviced towns in Sarawak like Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Layang-Layang and Mulu. It had big plans to be a regional airline with flights to Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Perth and Darwin. It had planned to buy 15 new aircraft in the next two years. However, the cost has ballooned to more than RM2.2 billion (S$974.4 million) compared to earlier estimates of RM1.5 billion due to the sharp depreciation of the ringgit. Parent company Ekran's future is also clouded by the indefinite deferment of the RM15.5 billion Bakun hydroelectric dam in Sarawak. S V Choong 4 Report post Posted August 4, 2006 Just notice this while reading FAX's webpage 6. Who are the shareholders of FAX and will it operate a low frills model? The shareholders of FAX are Anthony Fernandes, Kamarudin Meranun and Raja Mohd. Azmi. FAX is an independent company and is not affliated to AirAsia. FAX will not be operated as a full-fledged low-cost carrier but some AirAsia practices will be adopted to reduce cost of operations. FAX will be ticketless and a free seating policy will be implemented. FAX is mandated to provide a combination of commercially sustained services and public obligation services. Government subsidies will be limited to sustaining public service routes.

Nick R. 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 Hmmm... Malaysia carrier Fly Asian Xpress considers ATR, Bombadier to upgrade fleet Last Updated: 19-November-2006 04:53:22 "We are looking at replacing seven Fokker 50 turboprop planes, " Mohamad Azmi, chief executive officer of FAX -- the air operator in the eastern Sabah and Sarawak states on Borneo Island -- was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying. Azmi said FAX officials are evaluating the performances of two aircraft -- the 66-seater ATR-72 and the Bombardier. "We are looking at a plane that is fuel efficient and reliable, " he said, adding the total cost could run up to about 100 mln usd. ATR is the leader in the 50- to 70-seat turboprops market, while Bombardier is the world 's third-largest aircraft maker. EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company) and Italy 's Alenia Aeronautica each have a 50 pct stake in ATR. Azmi said a decision will be made in "the next few months", adding FAX will either secure bank financing for the purchase or lease the planes. FAX has already flown some 200,00 passengers since August after taking over the rural route services from loss-making national carrier Malaysia Airlines. Profit-making budget carrier AirAsia's group chief executive Tony Fernandes is among the shareholders in FAX, which also has five Twin Otters in its fleet. AirAsia announced on May 30 it would subcontract the rural air service to FAX, after it took over the route from Malaysia Airlines. Source www.afxnews.com ...too bad they wont fly to KCH though..
