Fly Asian Xpress (FAX)

AirAsia X has been very successful, few remember they started with this FAX fiasco.

Yes, the less they have to deal with the govt. the more they can be a commercial and profit making entity. Dealing with govt. is not easy - look at how Malaysian motor companies are screwed by changing govt. policies. Look at how MAS is screwed by lack of leadership and political will. Airasia X should do well, now that its success or failure is largely in its own hands. Plus there is no such thing as a govt. bailout for them....

You made it sound like it's the government's fault. FAX was never meant to be a commercial and profit making entity in the first place. It's main purpose is to serve the rural folks of Sarawak and Sabah, plus some secondary routes which do not have sufficient demand to be operated by larger jets :(

I would say both sides are equally guilty. The government wanted it to a charity run professional, yet AK wanted it to be VERY profitable.

Air Asia deals with the gov all the time, even recruited some ex politician.. There is no way they can be where they are now without gov help.. Just that they don't allow any meddling in the running of the airlines..

Wwll all the govt. was interested in was to provide the RAS - very important to getting votes from the rural people.

All FAX wanted was to do it profitably. Unfortunately, they were naive to go into the venture with very old and unreliable aircraft - they were highly expensive to maintain and there were few companies that were able to do this. So this story ended in tears.

However, some good came out of it - the govt. decided to put more money in and MASWings was born. Now, East Malaysians are better served than in those dark days of FAX.

Yup, the 'no pain, no gain' belief vindicated once again

We in the east here now get new (and presumably safer) equipment to travel on

Tan Sri ended up with an extra AOC, which entity has now been floated and brought in investors' money

Yes, the 'win-win' formula also proven

Now, both MASWings and AirasiaX/FAX (D7) are again in deep s#1t....

Really interesting story developing again! Get your popcorn ready! ;)
