Malaysia’s air passenger traffic soars to 15.3pc to 46.6 million in first half of this year | Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Malaysia’s total air passenger traffic reached 46.6 million in the first half of 2024 (1H 2024), marking a 15.3 per cent increase year-on-year (y-o-y) from the 40.4 million recorded during the same period in 2023.

Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) said the international air passenger traffic was particularly strong, standing at 24.0 million, up by 35.9 per cent from 17.6 million in 1H 2023.

“However, domestic passenger traffic decreased marginally by 0.7 per cent y-o-y to 22.6 million passengers from 22.8 million in the same period last year,” it said in a statement today.

The aviation commission said international traffic also held a higher share than domestic traffic in 1H, accounting for 51.4 per cent of the traffic compared to 48.6 per cent for domestic traffic.

Hope MAHB is planning Satellite C now, if not at least some optimization plans for the current terminals.

Aerotrain expected to be operational by Jan 31, 2025 at KLIA — Anthony Loke

Monday, September 2nd, 2024 at News

https://themalaysianreserve.com/2024/09/02/aerotrain-expected-to-be-operational-by-jan-31-2025-at-klia-anthony-loke/?fbclid=IwY2xjawFCJatleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHRfvPIPdXrFWwmuliyF2UzCFy7w-JA-o3g3VTFSf-S8Opbg3i-6Kv74HBw_aem_dvnuWA8EN0-E0qaSxLZv0w

KUALA LUMPUR — The automated people mover system (Aerotrain) at KL International Airport (KLIA) is expected to be operational again by Jan 31, 2025, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said two sets of Aerotrain arrived last week and are now entering the installation phase and will enter the inspection phase after that.

“This phase will take about four months,” he said after he visited and looked at the Aerotrain at KLIA Terminal 1 today.

He said the dynamic inspection will start this October, that is the Aerotrain will be tested using the actual track and will go back and forth.

“So I would like to explain to the passengers and the public that if they see Aerotrain operating, it is a test to ensure that everything runs smoothly,” he said.

Loke also said that Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) needs to closely monitor and ensure that all processes and tests are carried out properly so that there are no more delays.

“Next year is an important year for the country because we will chair ASEAN and international meetings and of course we expect this Aerotrain to be ready,” he said.

In total, he said MAHB will receive three Aerotrain sets and each set has three coaches that can accommodate a capacity of 270 passengers.

“The third set will arrive in October and be used as a ‘back up train’,” he said.

He explained that the shuttle bus service that was previously used to replace the Aerotrain will continue as an option for passengers due to the large passenger movements now.

In March 2022, MAHB announced it had awarded the KLIA Aerotrain Replacement Project, which has a timeline for completion of three years.

However, the project suffered delays and was followed by the award of a new project in January 2024 to a consortium comprising Alstom, original equipment manufacturer Aerotrain and JMC-Pestech JV to steer the project back on track. — BERNAMA

Turkish Airlines to fly from Sydney to Europe from December
By Amelia McGuire
September 12, 2024 — 4.00pm

https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/turkish-airlines-to-fly-from-sydney-to-europe-from-december-20240912-p5ka0b.html

One of the biggest airlines in the world, Turkish Airlines, will soon fly in and out of Sydney in a move expected to put downward pressure on airfares to Europe, the Middle East and Africa ahead of the December holiday season.

Turkish Airlines will launch four weekly flights from Sydney through Kuala Lumpur in December before starting non-stop flights between Istanbul and Sydney sometime in 2026, pending aircraft delivery schedules. The airline already operates A350S from Melbourne through Singapore.

Another option for travellers!

Not too sure if there are that many ex-KUL pax taking this TK's fifth freedom route tho. Aeroroutes posted TK's schedule; KUL-SYD leaves KUL at 0740 and SYD-KUL arrives KUL at 0155. And it's eating into KUL's capacity. TK's IST-KUL-SYD is temporary tho - they plan to launch nonstop IST-SYD in 2026.

It reminds me of Lauda Air we took two decades ago with departure time from KUL at around 5am for SYD, and arrival time from SYD to KUL at around 11pm. It was good price though.

Just checked on TK website. The reservation for SYD to IST is open but on SYD to KUL sector it shows the flights are full, at least for Dec to Feb that I have checked.

Yes. For airlines that don't have the luxury of idling their planes in Australia for half a day. The ideal schedule would be similar to BA15/16 (LHR-SIN-SYD) with about 9 hours ground time at SYD. I believe Lauda's flight numbers were NG 1/2 and 6/7 (one to SYD and one to MEL).

Yes, it was OS1 and OS2 VIE-KUL-SYD, one of their flagship route. Not sure about MEL, was it via KUL or SIN ?

IIRC, VIE-MEL was via SIN. Boy was that a different era… :)

I thought it was 3x VIE-KUL-SYD and VIE-KUL-MEL each before splitting to VIE-KUL-SYD and VIE-SIN-MEL 3x each. I maybe wrong tho.

Anyone knows why MH20/21 was reversed? Usually it’s even numbered flight for northbound and odd for southbound. Did the intern forget that convention? 😂 It was MH20 KUL-CDG and MH21 CDG-KUL last time.

Passed through KUL T1 a couple of days ago. Checkin was a mess with MH queues spilling onto the information counter area. Looks almost like a Disneyland ride queue without the efficiency. QR was also very crowded. Didn’t help that quite a few check-in islands/counters were closed for refurbishment.

And it appears that MAHB is refurbishing the arrival baggage belt (I don’t know what’s being done but there are quite a few things done to the ceiling and also installed an X-ray machine just before the bags gets dropped onto the belt). I am curious if they are scanning all bags upon arrival so they can tag those with suspicious belongings for secondary screening.
