2022 Aircraft Deliveries to AirAsia & AirAsia X Groups, MAG, Batik Air Malaysia (Malindo) + other 9M Malaysia carriers

Recommended Posts

A further sign that this pandemic is hopefully behind us, Batik Air Malaysia (Malindo to most of us) now have 3 x MAX 8’s in service -LRC, F and G believe these were former Malindo birds that spend time on the PK- register before being transferred back across.

Does anyone know if these have been reconfigured into a J and Y cabins? These were previously in an all Y configuration with those cheap blue Lion Air seats.

-LRD also looks to be returning to the 9M register too.

-LRH and J have recently ferried back to the SEA/Boeing Field for work prior delivery too after lengthy periods in storage.

Mods, can we sticky this to replace the 2020 thread please.

Saw one having new interior with business class(direct delivery from Boeing i recalled) but I've forgotten the registration. Both cabin have functioning inflight entertainment.

The ones transfered from Lion are all economy without IFE. Signage and even the inflight safety demo audio are still in Bahasa Indon apparently. Not sure if they will change them, but there are plans to reconfigure the seats appropriately.

-LRD is now back in service.

OD has started operating MAX 8’s to BNE and MEL in the past couple of days.

Been doing some research and have discovered OD are taking several ex Lion Air MAX 8’s and these will become -LRQ, R, T and U on the 9M registry, so plenty of fleet expansion to come with 2 further factory fresh examples too joining the fleet.

Guessing then -LRG has a 2 class interior as this is a very recent delivery from Boeing.

Hoping they can standardise the cabins and remove the Y180 Lion interiors.

Yes, 9M-LRD has now entered service, local spotters in Kuching caught her landing at KCH yesterday.

9M-LRD is in all-Y configuration.

Yesterday (July 11), Batik Air Malaysia is officially launched in Malaysia. Pak Rusdi was present to launch it with Dr. Wee, Malaysia's Minter of Transport. Pak Rusdi has now also toned down his tough stance in cancelling his B737MAX order after JT601's crash and said will continue taking delivery of B737MAX.

Mushafiz, CEO of Batik Air Malaysia, stated that they will take further delivery of 17 units by end of this year, mix of hand-me-down from Lion Air mother company and new delivery.

I flew on 9M-LRF recent on KUL-BKI legs, and 9M-LRG few days after its delivery on return journey. 9M-LRF looks pretty tired inside, dirty seat pocket, over-used cushion and the WC has scratches and breaking at some parts. 9M-LRG has the latest J class, with new Y class too with PTVs on both classes. The J class was empty, crew said that it was blocked from sale.

Meals are sold on board (apparently it can be pre-booked online when you purchase the your ticket), but there was no paper menu on board so you need to ask the crew what was on sale. No inflight magazine, and inflight duty free sold too, you only get a single piece of safety card in front of you.

Saw 9M-LRF flight history at FR24, it went all the way to MEL via DPS. My God, the horror. I think they will keep those all-Y b737MAX for some time as the airline ramps up their operation in next two years. Just hope you don't get last min equipment swap.

Took plenty of photo of both airframes, will share here when I am free.

Lion Air B737-MAX8 PK-LQH MSN6441/ 6441 went for test flight at KUL yesterday before joining Batik Air Malaysia fleet as 9M-LRT. Tentatively all Y, 180 seats.

Cheers JuliusWong.

9M Batik have just announced an increase of flights to Perth from 15Sep from 2 weekly flights up to 11 weekly, in addition to this they’ve also announced a new route which operates KUL-DPS-PER-DPS-KUL, 3 times weekly. Operated by a mix of 738 and 7M8’s.

I also see their resuming twice daily B737 flights to PEN.

Some pretty rapid expansion in the coming months, both schedules and fleet growth.

Slightly off topic, I see PK Batik are taking a lot of those ex Garuda 738’s that are parked at ASP in storage, bet we’ll see more former Malindo 738’s returning to the 9M register.

Yes, Lion Air Group needs to full in those lost capacity fast when lessors SMBC and Aviation Capital Group (ACG) cut ties with them and repossessed 15 and 29 B737NG. AerCap is desperate to make up for its loss due to a lot of their aircraft being locked in Russia, more than happy to do business with them with 22 ex-GA B737NGs at least it is from single source, maintenance would be easier. They are also taking 13 A320ceo with different engine (IAE vs usual CFM) from various sources, two have started flying. Out with 44 airframes, in with 35 airframes.

Sorry some typo there, lessors collectively repossessed 15 A320ceo and 42 B737NG.

That would be 57 aircraft out, with 35 pre-loved B737NG/A320ceo coming in.

17 new B737MAX 8 will also be delivered this year with 9M-LRG being the first (delivered on June 27, 2022). 9M-LRG is first of eight B737MAX 8 Lion Air Group will lease from Aergo Capital.

Another addition to Batik’s growing fleet is B38M 9M-LRR which is now in-service, ex PK-LQF.

She wears the same livery as -LRT.

It seems like Batik Air Malaysia is building up its operation quite quickly and Lion Air Group has moved all B737MAX8 operation to its Malaysia operation.

Those original ex-Lion Air/Batik Air Indonesia B737MAX8 hybrid livery will get full Batik Air Malaysia livery. Ditto for those Batik Air Indonesia B737MAX8 being transferred to Batik Air Malaysia. Only those Lion Air B737MAX8 will be flying around with "naked" Batik Air Malaysia livery for some time.

I wonder how long or how much money/ time does it take to wash the airplane and get the configuration standardised?

Back in July 2022 when they "officially launched" Batik Air Malaysia they were looking at 18 B737MAX8 by end of 2022. Then you have the other weird three B737-800NGs supplementing the fleet.

Another new entrant into the Batik/Malindo fleet is B38M 9M-LRK which was ordered by Lion Air as PK-LQR but was ntu, so she’s a 3 year old factory fresh 737-8 flying around in a mostly all-white livery with the Y180 Lion Air cabin.

The new few airframes will be, according to planetspotters.net:

  1. 9M-LRL    43012 / 7655   new airframe
  2. 9M-LRM    43010 / 7576  new airframe
  3. 9M-LRP    43014 / 7704   new airframe
  4. 9M-LRS    42995 / 6448   ex- PK-LQG (Lionair livery)
  5. 9M-LRV    42998 / 6911   ex-PK-LQO (Lionair livery)

This will bring Batik Air B737-MAX8 fleet to 16, two short of initial target. Complemented with three B737-800NG.

The fleet movement would also effectively means the end of B737-MAX operation in Indonesia. Lion Air Group has shifted out all their MAX8 to Batik Air Malaysia; all four B737-MAX9 to Thai Lion Air. Collectively, the Group still has 179 MAX8/9 and 50 MAX10 on order. Officially on Boeing's order book, they placed an order for 201 MAX8/9 and 50 MAX10.

GA has returned their sole B737-MAX8 back in July 2022.

Be interesting to see if 9M-LRL, M and P are reconfigured into a 2 class layout as they are currently listed as having a Y180 cabin, which I believe the recently delivered -LRK features.

9M-LRG, H and J are their only current flying 737-8’s which feature a 2 class C12Y150 cabin in addition to those 3 random 738’s they’ve retained.

Credit to the original photographer.

Looks like -LRL will be delivered in the same livery as -LRK.

Once again there already so much inconsistency in the Batik/Malindo fleet.

9M-LRK got it "Lion Air" title removed in KUL. I guess 9M-LRL will get its title removed when it is delivered. 9M-LRM and 9M-LMP are also in "Lion Air" title. My only belief is they are hard pressed for airframe to keep up with schedule and will only get their "Batik Air" decals in next A or B checks.
