Looks like -LRL will be delivered in the same livery as -LRK.

Once again there already so much inconsistency in the Batik/Malindo fleet.

Looks like Berjaya Air is having another shot at ATR 72 operation. A 22 years old airframe with various airlines before this.

OD will get 3 more B737NG in addition to the 3 they already have now.

On the B737 MAX side, I think they have 19 now. No more delivery this year.

On the rumor side, OD might be eyeing for some A330 next year. Still on rumor basis.

At the moment, B737MAX fleet is still at 16. Earlier this year, they have stated their target by year end is 19. Currently the Boeing production line has no new MSN# assigned to Lion Air Group, and we are in early November; not sure where they will be getting the other three. Possibly those Chinese airlines NTUs?

Won't be surprised if they are going for A330s, its parent airline Lion Air recently took delivery of an ex-TK A330-343 now registered as PK-LDW. https://www.planespotters.net/airframe/airbus-a330-300-pk-ldw-batik-air/3806o4

This will bring Batik Air B737-MAX8 fleet to 16, two short of initial target. Complemented with three B737-800NG. 

The fleet movement would also effectively means the end of B737-MAX operation in Indonesia. Lion Air Group has shifted out all their MAX8 to Batik Air Malaysia; all four B737-MAX9 to Thai Lion Air. Collectively, the Group still has 179 MAX8/9 and 50 MAX10 on order. Officially on Boeing's order book, they placed an order for 201 MAX8/9 and 50 MAX10.

GA has returned their sole B737-MAX8 back in July 2022.

D7 is receiving another A333 from what i've seen online, which is 9M-XBF. And heard that the plane is ex-Philippine Airlines.

Perhaps someone could verify it?

There’s still a number of stored/parked D7 A333’s parked at KL and other airports around the world, some of which are in Air Asia livery and configuration, I’m curious to know why these stored ones aren’t being put back into service first?

Those which are parked around the airport around the world belong to various lessors who have locked in court battle with AirAsia Group for past two years. They have taken back their fleet to lease to other customers or at least can earn some money rather than non-payment by AirAsia Group. One of these lessor's is BOC Aviation which previously supplied a big chunk of AirAsia Group fleet, mainly the A330ceo. Their court battle was very public and messy and from the look of it both have burned the bridges. Hence they have recalled all their airframes. There are few more out there. AirAsia Group is now negotiating with few other lessors to bring it's fleet to 24 again, like pre-covid era. Currently they have about 14, one short of their target for 2022.

Cheers JW, I did some research and found that the AirAsia Group only have the following A333’s in active service:

9M-XBE, XBF, XXF, XXQ, XXR, XXU, XXZ

HS-XTC, XTE, XTG, XTH, XTI

9M-XXR is up in Manila presumably undergoing maintenance and hopefully a repaint. Interestingly 9M-VVA has been parked for several months now at KL. 9M-XBE I believe us leased from BOC Aviation, is this the one in the odd high density configuration?

Interesting indeed, this is the single A333 in AK's fleet (instead of D7's fleet) isn't it ?

I recall it being heavily deployed up to twice daily KUL-BKI-KUL runs on AK designated flights

Nowadays the A333 services are flown with D7 designation

Wonder what happened 🙂

9M-VVA (formerly XXW)/XXF/XXR often rotated among themselves, were leased by AirAsia, doing domestic run for past few months to KCH and BKI. The agreement was completed on November 26, 2022. 9M-XXF did the last flight. 

There are only three A330ceos in high density 367 seat-configuration left in fleet: 9M-XBE, HS-XTG, HS-XTH. These three are ex-China Eastern Airlines airframe and mainly used for China markets. They have Type 1 door configuration at 3R and 3L, hence they are unable to be reconfigured to the standard 12J365Y.

For knowledge benefit, the maximum number of passengers approved for emergency evacuation is:
- 375 basic (3 Type A and 1 Type 1 doors installed)

Airbus A330: Type D

- 440 option (4 Type A doors installed – Mod 40161)

Airbus A330: Type A / Airbus A330-NEO

 

9M-XBE was previously doing KUL-TPE run mostly with 9M-XBD when pre-pandemic era [Both in 367 configuration]. TPE is/was a very high in demand route, hence the additional third flight with high seating density airframe. 9M-XBE has changed ownership in December 2018, no longer owned by BOC Aviation. It is now owned by Sierra Echo Aircraft Leasing Limited, an Irish-company. Maybe a shell company too. 9M-XBD has since left the fleet and been converted to full freighter.

Most of AirAsia Group's A330ceo current fleet are pretty old by industry standard, however the lease must have been cheap and the A330ceo value must be all down due to the pandemic and lessors are willing to let them keep them.

AirAsia X and its Thai affiliate are currently only flying some of its fleet as it is trying to get their pilot and cabin crew recertified. Manpower and reactivation slots at MRO centres are two main issues now. Most MRO slots are now occupied now. Resumption of full service is also depending on the local authorities' approval. Both airlines are particularly hard hit since China market is totally shut.

Saw most of the inactive ones recently parked at KLIA2:

  1. XXC (total mothballed)
  2. XXD (one of the engines cowling is opened)
  3. XXI (parked up after return from short term storage at Naples, Italy)
  4. XXP (parked at MH Engineering hangar)
  5. VVA (one of the engines cowling is opened)
  6. Missing were XXE and XXG.

All of them look very tired and in dire need of a new paint.

Moving forward, we pretty much do not expect they add any new airframes until A330neo and A321XLR delivery in 2027. The next five years will be interesting to see how will the long haul unit perform.

Also deployed on KCH route, but all assignment has ended on November 26, 2022. Initially it was done by VVA, then XXR and XXF also came into the mix. Wet lease between D7 and AK for the latter two.

Both are in storage now as XJ's current services are covered by five older A330ecos, also to maintain its current airframe cycles. Both A330neos are on 12-years loan from Avolon, not sure if they will offload them during its current bankruptcy proceedings. Very little information regarding their bankruptcy proceedings.

XJ is currently flying to Tbilisi, Sydney, Melbourne, Seoul, Sapporo, Tokyo-Narita and Osaka.

AirAsia X's second ex-PR A330-343 2-RPCA (MSN 1467, previously RP-C8784) arrived in KUL yesterday December 11, 2022. To registered as 9M-XBG.

I wonder when the Malindo MAX aircraft will receive their definitive livery and cabin configuration. It looks like they were hurriedly pressed into service to fulfil demand for flights!

This is a real test for the 9M Airasia airlines - they have lost their lustre and need to polish up again. Unlike many airlines in the world, they have not received any handouts and aid from their government. All they got was loan guarantees! Loans need to be repaid.

As you have said, the next five years will really determine if D7 can survive or fold up altogether. With old and tired aircraft, the least they should do is refresh the cabins and rejuvenate their soft product. A new and more exiting livery will also help. Lets hope that they can become stronger and start taking the Neos to operate their longer routes as oil prices are still uncomfortably high.
