Goodbye Cathay Dragon?

CX to reduce workforce by 25% and retire Cathay Dragon sister airline brand. Unconfirmed reports but announcement might come on Wednesday:https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/cathay-pacific-cut-6000-jobs-axe-cathay-dragon-brand-amid-pandemic-scmp

Would KA suffers the fate as MI?? Both are great brands KA-MI though overall experience might differs.

Will we see CX back in KUL, or will UO be taking over that route? Wonder what will happen to PEN too.

I'm sure KUL will revert to CX. There's too much traffic for UO.

PEN might be a toss-up but there's a reasonable chance CX will return. There's decent cargo demand and passenger traffic. Perhaps a mixture of the two with narrowbodies? Regardless, probably a long way off before PEN is even restarted.

Info from my indonesian friend is that Lion air is seeking bankruptcy soon. Currently the board and upper management is seeking to apply another newer AOC to transfer some of the assets over. Due to this no funding will be given to Thai Lionair and Malindo. This might've hasten in Malindo in terminating 2k staffs yesterday. Original downsizing fleet to just 13 atrs and 12 737ng might be scrapped as well to an even smaller fleet. Not sure how much Batik Indonesia is affected.

Rumors out also that co founder Pak Rusdi Kirana of Lion Air might be facing cbt charges just so after another Indonesian Tycoon Benny Tjokrosaputro was jailed for life from stock manipulation charges.

Thai Lion Air is dying too, both narrowbody and widebody services....laying off staff, banks are seizing whatever assets they can.

There seems to be some true wat your friend have said JT Group is being sued now over unpaid debt in Indonesia and Rusdi is now trying to attain new AOC to wash his hands off from JT Group

Korean Air to take over Asiana Airlines for $1.6b

Another brand goes the way of the dodo ..... 😪

This is a real loss to *A. It was one of the better carriers, with a pretty decent FFP.

I selfishly hope it doesn't go through...

or rebrand the takeover as Koreana

or KA logo will adopt that of Asiana, like what happen to AA-US, CO-UA merger.

Yes indeed.

We have a booking with them for Dec this year. I emailed them in September asking for what option could I have. They replied my flights were still with confirmed status at that time. In order for me to get full refund without any penalty, they advised me to email them again in November that they may have the latest flight schedule for Dec/Jan by then, which I did.

I emailed them a few days ago and four days later the full refund amount appears in my credit card statement, no drama. Very impressive especially they are deep in financial problem now 👍
