on last Sunday, 03nov, we got a false alarmed by the IL76, which give us a hope of she will depart in the noon

a short spotting session today, for the AirAsia 9M-AJA carrying the latest livery, Longjack Orang Kampung Livery

after the arrival, she deployed to TWU as rescue flight. 9M-AGW grounded in TWU and cannot perform the second flight from BKi to TWU.

today, 2019.12.02 another remarkable day in BKI Aviation field.

Silk Air 9V-SLP A320-233 operate the last MI392 flight to BKI.

meanwhile, today also the first day JinAir deploy their Triple Seven on daily basis (until further notice), for their daylight flights, LJ63.

Good catches in fine light, Sam!

Sad to see the Silk Air brand disappear. I wonder if SQ will return one day, with the Max? I guess that will depend on whether there are a lot of connecting pax to their long haul flights....

If loads on my most recent MI flights BKI/SIN/BKI give any clue, SQ group would be more likely considering whether to carry on at all in any form :)

Didn't the old Tiger Airways pull out of BKI because of poor loads? If so, Scoot won't be doing that much better...

today, 2019.12.03 consider is another new chapter for BKI as finally Scoot is flying her from SIN. to replace Silk Air operation on this route. 

and gratefully, we got invited by MAHB Social Media team to do some coverage on behalf of. after a small amazing race session around the terminal, walk & run from one end to another end, eventually we settle down with our access pass and reach at the venue, Gate A2.

they had done setup everything and test run once, before the aircraft arrive. 
*thankfully for the slight delay departure in SIN (sorry for the passengers), or else we will just simply missed it. :)

obviously, today the ground staffs is more than usual one. and Scoot ground operation is appointed to POS Aviation, same as earlier Silk Air.

here it is, 9V-TRD, a 8years old A320-232. first this aircraft operate by Tigerair and later transfer to Scoot after both company merged together in mid 2017.

well, to think about it from SQ group perspective. is either you retain connection with a LCC unit in your group, or to have a code share with MH and split the profit. I would opt for the 1st option anyway.

maybe yes in terms of load. but old tiger doesn't have a big backer like scoot now that time. With scoot, they are leveraging the SQ network, using LCC unit to broaden their network coverage.

 

Imagine if firefly jet ops operating with LCC model were retain in the past, i wonder will MAS will be in a slightly better shape now.  i kinda believe that it should be making money oppose to what their "official" statement that the ops is losing money, i remember the firefly jet ops is hurting AirAsia a lot that point of time, probably somebody is whining about the existence of firefly jet ops at that point of time causing firefly to yield and back to solely turboprop ops.

SQ can't opt for the second option as MH no longer doing BKI-SIN direct. only via KUL. 

but on the bright side, with Scoot join this market, maybe we can have chance to see low fare ticket for this sector.

Firefly jet ops will not be sustainable in the long run because it was "irrational" competition - they won't be able to charge those fares that were offered for long as they are loss making fares. Airasia complained because MAS was using taxpayer bailouts to fund Firefly jet ops. So even if Firefly jet ops continued, those low fares will increase because MH's CASK is much higher to be able to sustain those ops for the long term.

magic word is "operating the jet ops under LCC model". Firefly ain't operating in LCC model that point of time, by theory it should work. that's theory of 1+1=2. Not MH theory. LOL.

So how does "Firefly LCC model" differ from MH theory, given that all the resources for Firefly came from MH and taxpayers?

Yes it's Tiger Reloaded featuring SQ as the new "parent". They started SIN - BKI around 9 - 10 years ago. 9V-TRB had the honour for the first flight which was also the airplane's first revenue flight. They were competing with Jetstar then but somehow seems like Jetstar timing and load was better eventhough TR was offering something like RM99 per way. Departure around midnight then. 

I like to think that SQ still have faith in this route as compared to CX/KA that had stopped entirely.

It is quite telling too, that Airasia has double daily flights from BKI-SIN but has triple daily from BKI-JHB. It shows that there is not much interest travelling to and from Singapore to Sabah. Singaporeans still prefer to go Penang/Ipoh/Melaka while Sabahans don't really visit Singapore. Connecting pax probably prefer to go in to KUL to connect to BKI as there are numerous options. Lets see how Scoot does - we will know pretty soon, I guess!

pax load might be seasonal. but there's plenty of Sabahan working in SG. as of business traveller, not sure how much of them on this route. 

but not to forget the Belly load for SIN-BKI. few time we spot around gate 2A or airside also notice they got plenty of seafood unloaded from the belly. like i here post earlier, the lobster.
