Like this young politican you have to ask yourself:

Why should Tony canx that route if he makes money with it?

"Full flights" dont mean "good yield"!

And this route i think is heavily depending on inbound traffic out of china.

If there are just "cheap" touristis....then the plane is full but even the chinese tour operator makes no money with that.

The flight hours are just too horrible!

But normal for China-Flights...compare it to other flights in BKI, Bangkok or KUL.

On airports like Shenzhen there are no daytime slots anymore.

From what I am able to garner from the quoted piece, said "young politician" is probably saying what (he thinks) his constituents want to hear :)

So what is it but commit the Sarawak state coffers (extensive as it may be) to this bottomless pit exciting new venture, Sarawak Airlines (ala Singapore Airlines) to bring about "more direct international flights" - at least partly because "Sarawak is worse off compared to Sabah when it comes to having direct international flights"

Best of luck there, would be a natural knee jerk response, I imagine :)

I am so grateful those goons did not/have not managed to bring to fruition their proposed Sarawak/Sabah collaborative airline .....

Sarawak govt. does not get it. They don't even recognise their problem is a lack of good infrastructure and tourist attractions. Just having a Sarawak Cultural Village is not the only thing they should do!

Likely a case of putting the cart before the horse :)

My opinion, worthy or otherwise, would be that it's better the state govt take a step back, take its fingers out from the tourism related and hospitality vehicles and allow the private sector to venture in and sink/swim on own merit

I think because of that, many passengers rather transit in KUL or SIN. The custom too, in KCH, way too hardworking, so many eyes staring at you and all bags must be opened for checking. KUL is more linear.

KCH-SZX tonight 100% passenger load, still wonder why AA gonna suspend this route.

Yeah, AA isnt doing too well in the China market. They also dropped ORD-PVG and ORD-PEK some time back.
