3.5 hours of transit on KUL bound! Not to my liking. Wonder pax should stay onboard or have liberty to wander inside the terminal.

OOL terminal (especially the airside) is very small. Very warehouse. Heard they are expanding it for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

NZ to be a new trial phase for AirAsia X

 

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12, 2016:

 

In making a return to New Zealand, budget airline AirAsia X is adopting a conservative strategy which has been tried and tested by regular long haul, full-service carriers – using the same airline to serve two destinations along the same route.
Its daily flights to Auckland, starting March 22, are essentially extensions of the current service to Australia’s Gold Coast – allowing the carrier to already cover a significant portion of cost for the route and tapping into extra revenue by taking on new travellers for the next leg across the Tasman Sea.
“There are many Kiwis who live at the Gold Coast, about 25% of the population there,” noted chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail, backed by NZ High Commissioner to Malaysia Dr John Subritzky at the route launch today.
The budget carrier has already confirmed it will be adopting the two-hop strategy for what will likely be its most high-profile route – which Benyamin is hopeful will be launched by mid-year – linking KL to Hawaii via Osaka.

Just a question

 

I've noticed the expedia fare from KUL to AKL seems to be cheaper than the Air Asia website with the luggage add on. Just wondering whether the fare in expedia for D7 is inclusive 20kg baggage ?

 

Ex .. Different prices were shown for an AK flight to SIN, one without luggage, the other one with luggage

 

Can anyone confirm?

The AirAsia branded airlines, through their various entities, are resuming expansion in Australia and re-entering New Zealand with a new fifth freedom route connecting the Gold Coast with Auckland. Gold Coast-Auckland is a much bigger market, and less risky option, than the Kuala Lumpur-Christchurch route that AirAsia dropped in 2012, ending a highly unprofitable one year foray in the New Zealand market.


AirAsia cut back significantly in Australia in early 2015, erasing an earlier nearly 100% increase in seat capacity in the Malaysia-Australia market, which led to yield declines and heavy losses. Following the Gold Coast-Auckland launch, AirAsia will again be close to 2014 capacity levels in Australia, but with a much more rational approach, relying less on Malaysia.


AirAsia’s new, more balanced Australia operation with four routes from Australia to Malaysia, four to Indonesia, and one to New Zealand, gives the LCC group a stronger and more viable position in a strategically important market. Australia could potentially be subject to further expansion from AirAsia, but this is not likely to be in the Malaysia-Australia market.

AirAsiaX looks at restoring Iran route, sees "massive" prospects

 

Jan 25 AirAsiaX, the long haul subsidiary of Malaysia's AirAsia, said on Monday it was looking at restoring flights to Tehran, describing Iran as a "massive" opportunity, and planned to resume services to London and Paris if costs made sense.
Speaking at the CAPA Iran Aviation Summit in the Iranian capital, Chief Executive Benyamin Bin Ismail said: "We flew to Tehran in the past but had to stop due to sanctions. We are looking to come back and are exploring it again."

Earlier this week, Airasia Group CEO Tony Fernandes asked Twitter world which route should Airasia X restore to Europe, London or Paris. Votes cast overwhelmingly asked for London.

 

Now, rumours are circulating on the Internet that Airasia X is looking into the feasibility of operating a 360 seat A330-900 to LGW from 2018.

 

I wonder if London should be the first destination since it is already served by three daily flights. What about Paris or Frankfurt, which no longer has flights. MAB abandoned these destinations in its haste to get rid of the B777 fleet.

 

IMHO, Paris should probably be the first destination for Airasia X to return to as it is well connected for the rest of the EU. It should be a successful route.

Maybe FRA will be a second choice, but TF does work base on popular vote.

 

And when the route opens with not-as-cheap as the public think fares, it will not work, and TF may just cut it out again saying something along the lines of "not economically feasible"or something like that.

 

Of course that may just be my mis-informed opinion kot.

 

 

This is a great time for the AK group to talk and find an european partner tho. Feeding each other via D7.

Point-to-point traffic, London is the best bet. Student/family traffic is the aim.. AirAsiaX targets the masses whom wouldn't ordinarily consider making a trip, but if the fare is right they will go in a heart-beat!

 

It is not uncommon for people to regularly peruse the AirAsia site for deals on a day-to-day basis.. This form of cherry picking is absolutely one marketing ace budget carriers pull. You only often visit a legacy carrier page if you are certain of ur travel plans or if on a competitive basis with a carrier like AirAsia.

What is the oil price going to be in 2018? If it is going back up to US$ 100, then using a 360 seat A330-900 for that route might not be such a good idea as a 420+ seat A350-900 would probably give lower CASKs.

 

One should also not ignore the ME3 competition - although these are one stop flights, there is a huge choice and the competition will be even tougher, now that the ME3 have significant fleets of B787/A350/A380 aircraft operating this route. Schedules also offer a great deal of choice. The ME3 also has great economies of scale.

 

Airasia X should be under no illusions that the competition won't be tough. It might be even greater and tougher than previously experienced. And they had to suspend the route as they were uncompetitive.

 

To make the route more viable, they also need feed from the UK and Europe - so they should sign up some LCCs or LCC group to provide feed from Europe. Also, not everyone in the UK lives in London and the South East - how is someone living in Glasgow or Manchester going to get to LGW, and at what cost? The ME3 already operates to other parts of the UK and they may be a better choice for those staying outside London.

 

Airasia X really need to carefully evaluate their competiveness in the marketplace before launching KUL-LGW again.

I think that they should try at least CDG or FRA. Probably CDG as there were about 130k pax per year on that route. London will be overkill. Manchester might be an option as there must be at least 5 million people living within 2 hours journey ...

MAB should also consider doing Hawaii...Emirates can be the feeder.

Don't worry. Emirates will fly to Hawaii themselves eventually.

With MAB abandoning the kangaroo route, perhaps it may still work for D7 if the flight schedules are timed correctly. There is still demand on the kangaroo route, although MAB may not like the low yields.

 

So if D7 can create a LGW-KUL-SYD-AKL service to tap onto the traffic that is available, the return to London may be more successful.

Not sure if two stops from AKL to LGW is appealing for leisure travelers, imagine if one flight get delayed or cancelled??....Too heavily dependent on them is also not a good thing.

Russia could be Moscow to the west, or Vladivostok to the East... The latter has a large oil and gas population that pre oil-price drop was booming with construction and investment.. Might be a nifty stop between KL and Pacific US destinations also

AirAsia starting late-May 2016 is launching its overall 6th route to Guangzhou, as the airline opened reservation for Johor Bahru Guangzhou route. Starting 29MAY16, the airline operate daily overnight service, with following schedule.
