AirAsia Group/AirAsia X Group Service Changes

Recommended Posts

QZ seriously need to open a second Indonesian hub in DPS as soon as possible. Huge market and also it is the only possible point for a non AirAsia X operation to Australia (DRW and PER).

Slightly off topic ... Just got an e-mail from AK advertising their new promo ....

"Wanna get away this mid-year but feel the airfares are too 'MaHal'? No Worries!

With AirAsia 'unMaHal' promotion a trip to Langkawi, Krabi, Phuket, Singapore starts from RM1 only!"

I went to check the website right away... It's amusing to see how they are taking the piss out of MH=Malaysian Hospitality campaign...

haha :D

That type of advertising isn't allowed in Malaysia, if I'm not mistaken.

But I guess on the world wide web, it doesn't really matter.

I'd be surprised if this ad campaign makes it to the newspapers.

It is already in the papers. MAS fares are mahal, considering the inflight products they have to offer to customers.

haha yeah, I just noticed that.

I saw the Air Asia ad earlier today in the NST but I didn't realise the non-MaHal heading.

Probably they did that on purpose as to not attract too much controversy.

KOTA KINABALU, 2 May 2008 – Asia’s leading and largest low cost carrier today reaffirms Kota Kinabalu’s position as a regional hub when it officially launched its direct flights to the Land Below The Wind from Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia. This will further heighten Sabah’s position as a premier ecotourism destination led by AirAsia’s aggressive expansion plans towards becoming an ASEAN airline.

The launch was officiated by Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah, with Dato’ Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia and Captain Dharmadi, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia in attendance. The event was also graced by Y.B. Datuk Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah and distinguished guests from the Sabah Tourism Board, and over 100 guests from the various state government offices, media, hoteliers and travel agents.

Jakarta-Kota Kinabalu’s first flight commenced on 30 March 2008 and Bali-Kota Kinabalu’s inaugural flight will take off later this afternoon with both routes being serviced three (3) times per week. Kota Kinabalu hub currently serves 12 routes to and from Kota Kinabalu including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching, Miri, Tawau, Sandakan, Shenzhen and Macau in China, Clark (Manila) in Philippines, and now Jakarta and Bali. Taking into consideration direct flights between Kuala Lumpur-Tawau and Kuala Lumpur-Sandakan, AirAsia has a total of 14 routes to and from Sabah.

Dato’ Tony Fernandes of AirAsia said, “Kota Kinabalu remains as our biggest Malaysian hub after Kuala Lumpur and we are pleased with the passenger growth to date. Our average load factor in 2007 for our Sabah routes exceeds 75% proving that low fares have made a big difference to growing traffic and raising Sabah’s tourism potential. By geographic location, air linkages play a crucial role in Sabah and it is vital for AirAsia to play its role to spearhead Sabah as the gateway for trade, investment and tourism in the region under the Sabah Development Corridor.”

“The two new routes will also draw more inbound international tourist traffic arriving from Bali and Jakarta (into Sabah), alongside from Kuala Lumpur through AirAsia X’s long haul network bringing in Australians and Chinese tourists, who are often interested to explore surrounding cities in the region and these routes will entice them to visit the state for its rich ecotourism activities.”

“We are happy to see our network growing from strength to strength. We first started flights to Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur back in December 2001 and have since carried over 8 million guests to and from Sabah. We are a strong believer of ASEAN and with no doubt, our strong route network in the region is a testament of how we can bring ASEAN together. We have so much tourism potential in this region and in this case ecotourism, not forgetting to mention economic growth that can be derived from ASEAN.” concluded Tony.

Y.A.B Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah commented, “AirAsia’s arrival to our state has indeed opened various economic and business opportunities. We have seen some significant changes within the economic and social development context, particularly in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau. We are pleased to see the development that AirAsia has brought to the state which has promoted national and regional integration. AirAsia has along the way, positioned Sabah as a tourism destination and strengthened its growth commercially.”

Captain Dharmadi, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, said, “Sabah is poised for tremendous growth and we are looking forward to build upon the successful relationship that AirAsia has with the State Government, and with these two new routes, we know we can attract more visitors to the region. We will continue to work closely together and further strengthen the relationship. On the other hand, Indonesia has so much to offer in which a cultural exchange between the two countries will indeed be a win-win situation.”

SINGAPORE, 31 March 2009 – Banking on the success of its 4 new routes between Indonesia and Singapore, AirAsia is now looking at adding more routes to the island-city in 2009, said its Group CEO Tony Fernandes.

Inaugural flights between Singapore and Indonesian cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Bali took off on 24 March 2009, recording forward bookings of 80,000 so far. AirAsia is the only airline flying the Singapore-Bandung route and is the first low-fare airline to service the Singapore-Yogyakarta sector.

AirAsia’s first route between Indonesia and Singapore was from Pekanbaru, which commenced in August last year.

Apart from Indonesia, AirAsia currently flies between Singapore and the Malaysian cities of Kuala Lumpur (7 daily flights), Kuching (1) and Kota Kinabalu (1), as well as Bangkok (4) and Phuket (1) in Thailand. These bring AirAsia’s total number of weekly flights to and from Singapore to 140.

“Singapore is very special to AirAsia and we consider it a virtual hub. AirAsia’s latest Indonesia-Singapore link forms the final piece of our network jigsaw puzzle as it resembles the importance of the AirAsia network, making it the most powerful in Asia. Currently, we have a combined total of 10 routes connecting Singapore and we are looking at introducing at least 3 more new routes this year. Based on our projections, we will carry a total of 2 million guests to and from Singapore in 2009,” said Fernandes.

AirAsia is considering a number of cities to be linked to Singapore and among the destinations in the pipeline are Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia, as well as Medan and Surabaya in Indonesia. AirAsia will also increase the frequencies of some of the existing routes to Singapore this year.

“Given the current economic climate, this positive link between these new services is indeed such an encouraging response. Greater connection to both countries would not only boost economic growth by providing better access to markets but also enhance links within travel, trade and tourism. It is also a perfect match as both hubs, Singapore and Indonesia are able to feed traffic to the cities, connect to other points serviced by AirAsia’s extensive routes and international destinations serviced by AirAsia’s long-haul affiliate, AirAsia X via the Kuala Lumpur hub. This initiative will also help the pace of integration between Indonesia and Singapore in particular, and bridge ASEAN closer by enabling intra-Asean travel with AirAsia’s connectivity and route network via our strategic hubs in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand,” added Fernandes.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dharmadi, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia commented: “These new routes signify our effort in realizing the open skies policy. Despite the economic uncertainties, Indonesia still recorded the largest number of tourist arrivals to Singapore among Asean countries. This good indication of strong growth will definitely instill integration between Indonesia and Singapore, and to enable intra-Asean travel with AirAsia’s connectivity and route network via our strategic hubs in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.”

“Indonesians and Singaporeans share a lot of similarities due to historic linkages and family connections between the 2 countries. With our excellent network, the Indonesian masses will benefit from these new services as Singapore’s Changi Airport is a main gateway which connects to not only other international routes which AirAsia flies to, but also to other parts of the world. Singaporeans on the other hand, will have access to more low-cost alternatives to international routes and additional destinations in not only Indonesia but also the rest of Asean,” concluded Mr. Dharmadi

Because that is AK's only International route ex KCH...what you expect leh? I mean if you want to go Australia, you are better off flying to SIN for better connections...better than KUL I dare say...so really kinda expected that they would mount the 2X daily service...not like BKI, we can fly to so many International destinations direct you see...pros and cons I guess...you win some, you lose some...hahaha!

not many players pying the route, therefore I think most of their flights are full and can break even at least. Therefore now increasing capacity. Certainly don't increase the number of airlines plying the same routes, if not we will see another bloodbath..... <_ src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_rolleyes.gif" alt="">

Perhaps they got wind of that comeback possibility and are flooding the market with excess capacity now just to make it less attractive for the intending competitor ? Just a guess :pardon:

AirAsia gets green light for Davao flights

KOTA KINABALU: The Transport Ministry has approved AirAsia Bhd's application to fly to Davao, Philippines from Nov 1, 2012.

In a statement today, Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, said AirAsia would operate seven flights a week using the Airbus A320 from Kota Kinabalu International Airport to Davao.

"The rationale for flying to Davao is to improve the 'connectivity' for the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and thus boost tourism and economy.

"The flights will also offer an alternative for Malaysians to fly to the Philippines and hence boost the number of passengers handled by the Kota Kinabalu airport," he said.

Kong said the flights would also indirectly increase government revenue.

"Currently, there are no Malaysian airlines flying to Davao. AirAsia is the first to offer the services," he said.

Earlir this year, MASwings, a unit of Malaysia Airlines, which operated only in Sabah and Sarawak, started the flights to four destinations in BIMP-EAGA using ATR aircraft.

The routes are: Kota Kinabalu-Bandar Seri Begawan (twice a day); Kuching-Bandar Seri Begawan (three times a week); Kuching-Pontianak (Indonesia) (once a day); and Tawau-Tarakan, Indonesia (three times a week). -- BERNAMA
