Delayed/Canceled (IRROP) MH Flights

Recommended Posts

Clueless and wrong priority.

Crew left for other airlines because of better money and benefits.

Yet they think they can still hire crews with the same package thats not competitive.

It is not unheard of in the industry.

BA cabin crew for example, specifically those under the current Mixed Fleet contract, is known for their low salaries.

https://www.express.co.uk/finance/city/768535/British-Airways-strikes-cabin-crew-low-pay-unite-workers-poverty

The job continues to attract applications probably due to "prestige", "chance to see the world" and migrant influx. Reality will hit after a couple of years that the job-pay ratio is not worth it. So they left for a better paying job. And the cycle continues.

MH should adopt the same strategy if the budget for staff pay remains status quo. Go after the unemployed grads, school leavers and migrants. Turnaround will be high but the supply is endless plus this cycle is sustainable. From passenger's perspective, we can at least be guaranteed of a fresh and young crew serving at all times.

It may work for cabin crew. But flight crews will be different - RMAF does not churn out pilots like the RAF does - so there is no permanent supply of pilots. Furthermore, China is hungry for pilots and they have a shortage too. I believe that Airasia found that they need to pay the best rates to retain pilots due to the fact that new ones are not coming on line fast enough. MAB should really strategise on this matter and come up with a policy rather than react to shortages on an ad hoc basis.

I don't think selling for the A380 would do any good for Malaysia Airlines now. Firstly there isnt many good buyers out there who is willing to buy at the price MH is asking for. And if MH sold them at "cheap" price tag, you will rest assured MACC will come knocking at the door.

Secondly, those A380s now come in handy when there are multiple flight cancellation. It is better than chartering third party aircraft at last min shortage and having different cabin and service. MH customer service rating is already bad enough now, chartering third party aircraft will be like adding salt to an already battered image.

The current issue with MH can be traced to decades of mismanagement. Previously they were bloated with too many staff, mismatched aircraft need and requirement and route that doesn't make sense hence the job cut, route cut and fleet cut. Their overhead expense is just way too high even with 100% load factor, they will still even not make any money.

Now that they need more cockpit and cabin crew, who would want to join a company well known for mismanagement?? And to be lay off few years down the road? Sad to say a lot of good experienced crew were laid off during previous culling. A lot of them either retired for good. Younger ones went to overseas to seek greener pastures. Eva Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Oman Air took in hundreds of them among them each. All left due to reasons stated by jahur. Good thing Etihad is also loss making if not more will be leaving. Just a matter of time other airlines come to Malaysia to poach more staff.

Current shortage of tech crews and cc are largely caused by previous CEO to meet his KPI imposed by some khazanah bean counters by trimming recruit/training, keeping crew numbers below minimum level and foregoing strategic/forward planning. It will takes months if not a year or so before crews shortage issue could be resolved.

The high hours symptoms have been around since late 2016. Everyone felt weird that the current CEO was pursuing on adding frequencies to India and adding new routes to China with narrowbody aircrafts when there's no sign of them plugging the crew monthly exodus nor supplying fresh pilots into company adequately. Staffs have been informing him that there's need to halt the expansion or do something. The requests have gone to deaf ears by either him or the entire dumb BODs as a whole. It is up to this year that it became too critical when there's bassically nobody on standby while crews are getting more fatigue easily with no social life and family time at all that they'll be more motivated to leave the company. Plus theres still no sign of them cutting flights apart from cancelling flights the very last minute at passengers inconvenience. Edited by jahur

This is going to hurt MAB - A380s are deployed to free up A330s. The A330s are, in turn, substituting for B738s. Abuse of equipment!

Bottom line - poor management! They are not able to manage the various resources to ensure a profitable business.

Maybe this is best chance ever to see a dugong flight into BKI/KCH/PEN

before this dream come true, they need source for Ground support as well. IIRC BKI or KCH on certain equipment do still required additional works on, before can handle A380. not sure about PEN

MXC was on the ground at MYY for almost 24 hours on Saturday (after arriving as MH 2598 on Friday night) as MH2551 was retimed from 0600 to nearly 2100, a whopping 14 hours delay for a narrowbody operation. Today's flights bound for KUL was down to 2, another 2 has been cancelled. Looks like tough time ahead for MH's B738 operation. Tomorrow will be another round of 40% discounted fares sales (received Priority Booking SMS from CIMB).

MH620 yesterday was upgraded to 333 to cater for the cancelled MH624. and it was served by 9M-MTO

What I don't understand is why the incoming flight MH619 was so late? it reached SIN at 1635hrs when it should have reached at 1535hrs. According to FR24, 9M-MTO's previous flight was on 6th July, meaning the delay is not due to late arrival or aircraft before MH619.

Perhaps crew shortage is really getting worse?

So, this is a reason why suddenly KCH-BKI flight was upgraded to A333 several days ago?

I believe they want to attract the same group of guys who left MAB to Malindo last year for the same reason, i.e “6 months FO then command”. 1year on and command is no where in sight for them in Malindo.

MAB seems to playing the similar trick to get this guys back to fill up massive FO shortages. Few would fall for this trick to MABs benefit.

Whine Wednesday: Malaysia Airlines Cancelling Flights Last Minute To Consolidate Passengers Into One A380 Departure – Economy Class Meals For All!

https://loyaltylobby.com/2018/07/11/whine-wednesday-malaysia-airlines-cancelling-flights-last-minute-to-consolidate-passengers-into-one-a380-departure-economy-class-meals-for-all/

If its that bad MAB has to come out with a statement. My friends flight to BKK on J got cancelled and moved to the a380 flight. None of the gate agents have the Suvarnabhumi Immigration Premier Lane voucher and it's only provided to those who checked in at the Main Terminal Building KLIA those who connect from other flights airside didnt have the voucher gate while the ground agents promised to give it to the cabin crew in the end it didnt happen. Well at least his meal didnt get screwed LOL. I know TnC states nothing can be guaranteed due to operational requirement, usual 1-2 flights affected a day but if it goes to a level where u have more than 2 dozen flights affected i would call it unacceptable. MAB is going to lose its connecting customers due to the unreliable flight timings and last min cancelations. Am currently avoiding recommending mab to friends who travel on multi sectors for the time being.
