If we look at MI's history, we can see that its original purpose (a packaged tour airline) is no longer relevant as LCCs are not serving that market sector. As a regional feeder airline, its product is poor compared to SQs. Since the SQ Group already has Scoot in the LCC sector, it is a no brainer to merge MI with the mainline to have better product consistency. The upgrades, which will commence in May 2020, will feature lie-flat business class seats in line with SIA's business class product on its medium-haul Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-10s.
