AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes has apologised for a stunt in which he ferried former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak aboard a BN-themed flight. Fernandes said he thought the move would appease the government, who had been pressuring him and AirAsia over their move to provide affordable flights on election day May 9, and also over AirAsia X chairperson Rafidah Aziz's vocal support for Pakatan Harapan.

@4:10-4:32 - This is the part I felt shocked and disgusted. Did the previous government intentionally try to discourage voters from travelling home to vote? Order to cancel all those extra flights?

Or could it be some other reason I'm not aware of eg: air traffic control limitations / market supply regulations / MAB protectionism?

Anyone here working for MAVCOM can clarify?

But then again there was also the fixing of a midweek polling date and the open rebuke of Cathay Pacific's fee waiver.

He just backed the wrong "horse" whatever reasons given. Now the govt will check on whether NAVCOM did ask AK to cancel its additional flights. But then again the extra flights could also have meant carrying voters who support BN too.

Tony shouldn't need to explain himself. Businessmen should be free to support who they want, regardless of their reasons.

@5:30 above

If that "baby" is not profit driven, what the heck are AK and D7 shareholders hanging on for ?! :D

The guy is simply grovelling his way back into good books of incoming administration after coddling up to MO1 before this. No doubt we will now have the story about first meeting with the old horse all those years ago, offered AK lock stock and barrel for the token RM1, etc ...... be recycled ad infinitum (a narrative many will have noticed missing in recent times)

And I do not buy idea that blue D7 flight was some last minute appeasement measure - at the very least those stickers needed time to have been designed, printed and pasted on :)

For a more cheong-hei version

No more pulling wool over our eyes, superstar Tony Fernandes!

couldnt fault him..he's just trying to mitigate the effect of Rafidah's support to PH on Airasia's business..and Rafidah had expressly explained the fact transpired that lead to Tony's statement..people should just be reasonable to accept that many people were oppressed under the previous govt and be professional about it..i never believe tony was a supporter of MO1 ever.....

Ak will recover and probably not much affected as long as they dump fares for people to travel without spending a dime. As for Tony he'll recover as well but this fiasco will take a toll on him for quite a while.
