MAHB sues AirAsia X over RM35m in unpaid dues

Recommended Posts

KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is taking legal action against AirAsia X Bhd (AAX), claiming the airline owes it RM34.88 million in outstanding airport charges, rent and late payment charges.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, MAHB said its wholly-owned subsidiary Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd has on April 27 filed a writ of summons and statement of claim at the Shah Alam High Court on AAX.
AirAsia X denies not paying for services after airport operator sues
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X Bhd in a statement late on Monday said it has consistently made monthly payments to Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang), a subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the latest of which was made on Monday, after MA Sepang filed a suit against the airline for a sum of RM34.88 million.
AirAsia X said it made a RM16.6 million payment to MA (Sepang) on Monday, the latest in a series of four payments it has made since February 2, 2018.
"This is contrary to claims made in a Writ of Summons and Statement of Claim filed by MA (Sepang) that AirAsia X has refused and/or failed to fulfill outstanding payments," AirAsia X Malaysia CEO Benyamin Ismail said.

The usual sandiwara... Supposed to be partners, offering better services to customers and competing with foreign airports and airlines. But in the end, both failed...

I still think AirAsia is being unreasonable with their own klia2 fee which goes to their pocket 100% and has nothing to do with MAHB.

Agree, they itemised it separately as a political ploy when klia2 was first opened because they did not want to move from LCCT (their rationale - klia2 was too luxurious for LCC and operating costs from klia2 are higher). Furthermore, MAHB also politicised the aerobridge issue, saying that it does not cost much more for the pax.

But now that they are firmly established there, they should just incorporate it as part of their fare as passengers have no alternative but to pay.
