Mohd Suhaimi Fariz 2 Report post Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) MH needs more than everything other than just hardware change. They are leasing and financing most of their fleet now, not sure if adding another fleet type will make sense. As much as we would like to see A220 in AirAsia or MH colours, it has limited roles in either airlines' operation. It may have a limited role, but at the same time it can open new opportunities for the airline to serve routes that has enough demand for an RJ, but not enough for a 738/A320. Why else would US airlines operate so many flights on RJs? Edited August 6, 2019 by Mohd Suhaimi Fariz

I think they are waiting for the A225 because they do not have lower thrust versions to compete with PW. To scale down the fan might not be optimal and there needs to be some modifications to the core too. Otherwise, fuel burn may not be as good. With a A225, I think they can port over LEAP-1B with minor modifications.
