Probably the cheapest way to get out of the agreement....

No problems because they are SPV company, isn't it? Credit rating not important.

More like the company took advantage of Mas Act 2015.

Yeah, saw it at the Airod hangar a couple of weeks ago - all painted up in the NAM Air livery.

Do they sell all FY and Maswings' 600 series to NAM only?

Your question is answered after a year. Lolx

NAM Airlines only took three of FY's ATR 72 (9M-FIA, FIB and FIC) and two of MasWings (9M-MYB and 9M-MYC)

FID is now re-registered 2-MFID after two years storage at SZB. Soon to be flown out, if not already.

FIE, FIG and FIH are still with same registration, currently stored at SZB since Oct 2016.

FIF is now 2-MFIF with Nordic Aviation Capital stored at BZG since Aug 2018.

MYA is still with same registration now stored at KUL since June 2016.

MYD is still with same registration now stored at SZB since Aug 2016

Seems like MH is sitting on their lease until it runs out rather than terminating the lease early.

looks like MH rather ground those 600s than flying it, or probably it is pricey to upkeep those bird so they might as well storing it. Hmmm....

Mh defaulted on lease payment, 600s were repossessed by leasors. Those stranded at szb are believed to have cannibalized. Edited by KK Lee

Storing for two years are rather ridiculous. The lease payment, cost of storing etc. Not forgetting bringing it up to spec before sending back to lessor.

Just to recap back in 2013 when Malaysia Airlines place an order for 36 ATR 72 (20 firm and 16 options). http://www.atraircraft.com/newsroom/press-releases-details-1209-en.html

It was one of the larger order placed by a single airline. Firefly was enjoying their monopoly then.

Then came Malindo. In Jan 2017, Firefly decided to cut fleet from 18 to 12 while Malindo jacked up their number.

yeah.... kinda crazy to think about it. Malindo can make their ATRs working, but then...... firefly couldn't. same aircraft type. similiar business model afterall. not like LCC vs FSC.

anyway, we should be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for these poor birds end of the days.

Nah, Malindo is not making money either - there is too much capacity out of SZB. I think FY would have no problems if there was no OD - like in their early years. Note that Malindo is not expanding either - that shows that the demand has maxed out.

Malindo has even reduced its fleet. 4-5 ATR sent back to Wings Air. 2 aircraft usually out of service. Leaving them with 8-10 active aircraft.

I think SZB is overrated. It close to some part of the Klang Valley, but for many others, KLIA is just as near. The road traffic to SZB can be horrendous at times. There are no flights to destinations over 2 hours away and no connections.

I agree and the 20 or so mins I gain in proximity are lost in the longer flight time to Singapore and the need to take a bus from the band. Cost in another thing!

Perhaps, allowing regional jets into SZB will help extend its appeal to travellers?

9M-MYA is believed to have cannibalized.
