9M-AQH based in Kuching for now. AK likes to send old special liveries instead of those new special ones to be based in Kuching, or no special at all.

'China Express Airline will make Kuching as its South East Asia hub; Beijing Glory shall manage two SEDC hotels – Damai Puri and Grand Margherita – in Kuching; there will be increasing connectivity for Chinese, Korean and Japanese tourism markets; Beijing Glory will take over management of some tourism destinations such as Bako and Mulu National Park; there will be rebranding of SEDC’s Sarawak Plaza'

This looks like a more comprehensive effort, rather just mounting flights and expect the local government to do something. If they are managing the tourist spots as well as hotels, a complete package could then be offered to target customers.

That is if they get what they wanted.

I thought it's odd that at KCH airport, there is huge billboard advertising Malacca and get this, there's no direct flight there from KCH! Maybe I am a tat too Sarawakian but I'd rather see another Sarawakian town or city advertised or at least one that has direct flights to Kuching. That said, perhaps we can learn something from the aggressive way the Malacca government is advertising the city.

There seem to be an issue - a disabled aircraft on the runway at approx 1100 hrs today : at least 6 arrivals put on hold . Anyone has details?

AK5205. Wasn't monitoring ATC at the time so no details on what the problem was.

KCH-PNK route has just been launched with the first flight taking off on 5th June. A dummy booking showed a fare of RM165 as opposed to Xpressair offering RM720 on the same date. This could spell the end of Xpressair in Kuching.

This is actually a great news. Perhaps AK could plan more direct international flights from KCH to several other destinations to include BPN, SUB, HLP or even DPS and UPG.

If you say DPS only during holiday seasons then I guess it would be feasible. Otherwise we know very well what's gonna happen.

They turn in so close to the runway? I thought they would align a few kilometres out.

VOR approach. For KCH runway 25 and 07 it has offset by a few degrees as opposed to the straight in ILS. So usually by/at minimums they will fly it visually.

I was informed that there is a SQ B747 freighter in Kch.

Ah, that explains why I thought I saw a B744 taking off and making a left turn as I was driving at 9th mile this afternoon at about 2.30 pm. Too far for me to make out the airline though.

Wow Firdaus! Those are pics from a very rare angle. Nice job :clapping:

Time for some spotting update. Featuring some shots from the end of March and first week of April.

One of my favorite AK special liveries.
33197445361_bfd19a6c7b_b.jpg

Mike Sierra Bravo. I love photographing aircraft in the evenings. The lighting direction against the fuselage as they pushback/turn into stand is always a spectacular combination.
33445197731_4ee592554b_b.jpg

AK's 100th Awesome Plane, was based here in KCH hub for awhile.
32731209374_4e3f4ea9aa_b.jpg

Late evening departure to Lumpur as AK5215 with FO Syafiqah Bisnu operating. 9M-AFT dubbed by spotters and pilots 'Christmas Tree' and 'Pandan Plane'. Was also stationed in KCH hub.
32711907264_a4bd346626_b.jpg

Unfortunately lighting chose to be meters away from the subject. How irritating.
33525499581_b972490ea6_b.jpg

Pushback from bay 5 facing west to exit via Bravo.
33498057702_1a20045ff7_b.jpg

9M-AQB, Penang based GE livery.
32841303103_b4ef86baed_b.jpg

Anyone knows who owns this jet?
33817011546_2490714386_b.jpg

9M-AJN pushes in brilliant late evening light.
33854343346_dd7a639f2f_b.jpg

And the main dish of April week 1. A completely unexpected visitor. 9V-SFN rotating off runway 25 to Hong Kong before commencing a very early right turn on an easterly heading. She is the second Jumbo to visit KCH after the Sultan of Brunei with his B747-8.
