Anthony Koo 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2017 It's just over a month till LIMA2017, perhaps an appropriate time now to start a thread dedicated to the bi-annual event. The display and demo program: http://www.limaexhibition.com/exhibitors-display-demo.php List of display aircraft for both static and flying: http://www.limaexhibition.com/download/List%20of%20Attending%20Aircraft_30_01_17.pdf So what are we all expecting from the show in terms of announcements, news? SS Lee 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2017 I wonder how accurate the list is. I remember seeing that "All aircraft in the aerial display will be on static display". Was happy for a moment that even the B-1 would be there (silly me), but the list got updated. Thought I saw that the A350 was supposed to be on Static display too, but now no-longer there. SS Lee 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2017 Going to the event March 19--21. Looking for car rental (6-seater), but no availability from the major service providers. Does any of you know of anybody from whom I can rent a car? On my last trip, my original rental cancelled on me and I had to look for one on the spot. I think this was expected since I booked it really in advanced, way before they were aware of the date for LIMA. You could approach the companies just before you clear the customs. I got an Avanza for ~RM450 for my 3.5-day trip.
Sri Ramani K. 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2017 Just a little OT, Uber was launched in LGK a few days back. Probably a better option to move around besides haggling with taxi drivers if you do not intend to rent a vehicle.
flee 5 Report post Posted March 22, 2017 France Pushing Malaysia To Buy Dassault Rafales LANGKAWI, Malaysia—The French government is making a last-ditch effort with industrial and credit inducements to get Malaysia to order Dassault Rafales ahead of a planned visit by its president next week to the Southeast Asian nation. A flypast of two Rafales from the French air force with a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Airbus A400M Atlas airlifter is planned for the arrival of President Francois Hollande in Malaysia on March 27. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is to greet the French president on arrival at Subang airbase in Kuala Lumpur. The French government is hoping that the centerpiece of the visit will be signing a contract for Rafales, if their delivery and payment is made after 2020. A Malaysian defense ministry official told Aerospace Daily that France had offered generous offsets and financing to facilitate a purchase of 18 aircraft. flee 5 Report post Posted March 24, 2017 LIMA: Mixed signals around MRCA fighter deal Kuala Lumpur appears to be sending mixed signals about the status of its multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) acquisition to replace its Mikoyan MiG-29s with 18 modern fighters. This year’s Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) saw three major European manufacturers campaign at the show: Dassault, BAE Systems, and Saab. Dassault had a large presence, with French air force Rafales appearing in both the static and flying displays. BAE Systems, which is leading the Eurofighter consortium’s campaign in Malaysia, actively promoted the Typhoon. This included a full-sized mock-up that it has brought to the last four LIMA shows. Saab also actively promoted its Gripen fighter. A Gripen C/D operated by the Royal Thai Air Force took part in the flying display. https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/lima-mixed-signals-around-mrca-fighter-deal-435489/
