MAB Proposed 25 New Widebody Aircraft Purchase in 2017

Recommended Posts

Ok, Aercap and some China lessor just signed up 39 B789 on first day of Paris Air Show, Malaysia Airlines...please......lease some!!

Ps: I'm joking.

I'm curious, what is it about the 787 that you love so much?

Don't know where to start...the airy-ness, the cabin pressure, the Hollywood lavatory mirror...I felt much refreshed upon arrival at destination compared to older generation wide body. I have yet to try A350 though, that may change my opinion again. So am biased towards B787 for now at least.

But but like what I've mentioned I was just joking in begging MH to buy B787. It should be a good fit for Malaysia Airlines despite the need to invest heavily in the new technology, and training. We need variety at KLIA too....soon both MH and AK have both A330neo and A350...what a dull airport KLIA will be.

Because it is a very modern aircraft ? And if MAS doesn't want to repeat the same mistake that its predecessors did it's a good reason why they should either make a top-up order for the A350-900XWB or order new B787-9 Dreamliner instead of considering placing a new order for a re-engined A330 ?

Based on people who have been inside A350, they claim the cabin noise is very quiet, and some still prefer the conventional window shades to 787's dimmable windows...

Been on sq a350 and tg 788. Not much difference becuz they were on flights up to 2hours. But cabin design and comfort are so much ahead of the a330s and narrowbody.Didn't airbus say they were redesigning the a330neo cabin to be unique and comfortable depending on airlines specification, if its true it should be good for passengers.

Yes, the A330Neo will feature the Airspace cabin and today, Airbus launched Airspace for the A320 family.

The CEO should just quickly lease 4 to 6 used A330s as soon as possible as already it is short on this aircraft capaciity and esp when there are unexpected maintenance and technical issues as have seen over the past week and resulted in cancellation and long delays to other flights. For its ordr ow wide body planes, MAS should just stick to either a combination of A330NEOs and A350s - and should not get even get a few B787s as it will introduce another aircraft type into its fleet and it is not big enough to warant any economies of scale in training and parts and be more costly instead to just maintain a few.

MH ground engineers are already certified for 787 to service NH, JL, BA, etc. On spare parts, RR has a service and parts center in SG.

Without suitable capacity to match demand, MH could never optimize yield.

Why does MAS have to order factory fresh planes.

Would it not make more financial sense to pick up some later build A330's to add to their exsisting relatively modern fleet?

Yes, they have already done that - the aircraft are now being inspected and checked. Deliveries should begin towards the end of the year, when the legalities and business end of things have been duly completed. These are the short term leases that will help to cover the shortages that the airline is currently experiencing.

The fresh order is for many more years down the road. Their current A330 will not be able to keep up with the competitions of A320neos/737max + 787/A350 that competing regional airlines are currently receiving.

Believe the 2nd hand a330s which are for immediate use are not part of the 25 widebody replacement.

Yeah, they are.

My comment was referring to the potential upcoming A330neo orders.

Malaysia Airlines Still Keen on Airbus A330neo After Boeing Order

Malaysia Airlines Bhd. remains keen on Airbus SE’s upgraded A330neo wide-body jet after placing an order for the rival Boeing Co. 787.
The re-engined Airbus twin-jet is a candidate for a major order as Malaysia Air renews its long-haul fleet and could operate alongside the Boeing Dreamliner, Chief Executive Officer Peter Bellew said in an interview Thursday.
Prospects for an A330neo purchase from the Southeast Asian carrier appeared to have faded when Boeing said Tuesday that it had secured a contract for eight 787-9s worth $3 billion at list prices. Bellew had said in March that he was looking at buying 25 to 30 A330s or 787s for delivery between 2019 and 2023.
“I think the A330neo will be a super plane, and we are still very much talking with Airbus,” the CEO said by telephone, adding that he plans to meet with the Toulouse, France-based manufacturer toward the end of next week for further discussions.

Yes, it is like telling Airbus that if they don't want to play, we play with Boeing.

MAB can easily add more orders to the 8 already stated in the MoU.

Wow, that would be one heck of an elaborate 'ploy' having two heads of states acting as the proverbial pawns no less :)

One just wonder what POTUS will be tweeting if and when he realizes the promised 787 purchase tidak jadi after all and MH buys european instead :D

Perhaps by then, POTUS would be impeached and MYPM would be history too... :drinks:

Sharing the info from Jahur in bits corresponding to its respective threads for order of forum discussion.

Airbus A330-300 and freighter aircraft

Malaysia Airlines currently has 15 passenger and 3 specialised freight-only A330 aircraft. These widebody aircraft operate to North Asia, Australia, New Zealand, India, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and China. They are used on the most profitable routes the airline operates and have lie flat beds in business class. The aircraft will start to end their leases between 2020 through to 2025.

The business strategy of Malaysia Airlines is to return to being a premium 5 star airline. The company has been on the lookout for suitable additional widebody aircraft for the last 12 months to enhance services to India, China, Hong Kong and North Asia.

The search is still ongoing to find approximately 6 second hand A330 aircraft which can complement the existing fleet and upgrade our Asian services quickly. Ideally, we want to be able to obtain high quality A330 used aircraft with lie flat beds and full in-flight entertainment systems to add to the fleet in 2018.

The A330 fleet is financed via a variety of finance and operating leases including some export credit debt. Payments vary from quarterly to monthly. If additional good value aircraft can be sourced, they will be financed by operating leases.

As the existing Airbus A330-300 passenger fleet approaches the end of their leases, a replacement will be required and the company will continue to evaluate the new Airbus A330neo and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to replace this fleet of 15. This is of course, subject to a final decision by the Board.

MAS orders are not that big with only 8 possible orders, unike othr airlines like SIA with A350 orders. Doubt Airbus will really be played by MAB although AB will give some discount.

Lets hope not. Makes more business sense to move on with the 787-9 or 787-10 and retire the existing A330s progressively.
