Chinese female aerobatic pilot killed in accident

 

 

A female aerobatic pilot of the Chinese air force has been confirmed dead during a flying accident on Saturday.

Pilot Yu Xu was killed in a failed parachute jump when her plane crashed somewhere in Yutian County near north China's city of Tangshan.

The 30-year-old pilot, Yu Xu, is the first of the four female pilots in China capable of flying the country's third-generation J-10 jet fighter.

She piloted a training plane in the military parade marking the 60 anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic in 2009.

Her last public appearance was in the just-concluded Zhuhai Air Show. At the Airshow China, Yu Xu, Captain of China's Air Force, said: "Basically, we have no difference from male pilots."

Media reports said the accident involved two planes of the Bayi Aerobatic Performance Team of PLA's Air Force.

Yu's copilot was injured and is being treated in hospital.

No official comments have been made over the accident at this point.

It's reported an investigation has been underway.

BTW, do anyone know which plane she was piloting while performing at LIMA 2015? At least 1 of the online portal mentioned she is piloting aircraft no.9, But check back the photos taken at LIMA 2015 I do not see aircraft no.9.

On the first day of the 2015 LIMA, 170315 (Tue), she was the WSO and did not pilot the J10 number 12.
