flee 5 Report post Posted November 3, 2016 Last week, Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes was awarded Airline Executive of the Year by CAPA (Centre for Aviation) in Amsterdam. In giving this award, CAPA said, “AirAsia is back at the front of the pack and Tony has once again shown why he is one of the industry’s leading executives. The original short haul operations in Malaysia and Thailand are again among the most profitable airlines in Asia while losses in Indonesia and Philippines have been reduced. Long haul LCC AirAsia X is also back in the black following a restructuring.” I caught up with him to talk about comebacks, retirement, egos, music and of course, travel and Asia. http://www.webintravel.com/tony-fernandes-retirement-egos-one-airasia/
leon t 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2016 Don't know why in the interview Tony makes references to SIA twice. They are different players and one is a budget carrier and another a FSC. Even Tony mentioned that AK has female pilots but SIA don't have? See no relevance again as many other FSC carriers do not - believed even MAS do not have a female pilot(?) and many Asia FSC also do not.
flee 5 Report post Posted November 4, 2016 His two benchmark airlines are SQ and EK - these are the two airlines he holds high regard for. It is his ambition to be better than these two.

flee 5 Report post Posted November 11, 2016 AFAIK, TF admires SQ for its cabin service (that was stated a long time ago) and EK for its worldwide connections from its hub (this admiration started two or three years ago). From that, I can interpret that he wants to make Airasia to aim to have good cabin service as well as connections everywhere. With Brexit and the US election surprises, one should never say never as we may yet be surprised again!
