Delay at KLIA

Recommended Posts

On MH740 to Yangon today. STD was 0910. Waiting in the aircraft for over 1 hour 20 mins. Finally left the gate and waiting to takeoff.

Captain mentioned congestion at KLIA and KL airspace. Any info about this?

Seems like many flights delayed for departure.

It's now 1045 and waiting with 10 other aircraft to take off. Apparently aircraft is also landing in the same runway. At Runway 14R. Strange. Was wondering if a runway is closed.

DCA's calibration jet was flying - so the airspace was probably cleared for it while it was taking its measurements.

it does seem not well planned or scheduled as diubt other airports with 3 runways will close off 2 runways and especially during morening peak. Even for calibration, it should be done after peak hours like say from 12pm to 2pm etc

When I looked at FR24, all runways were open for both arrivals and departures. Do note that airspace is not just in the airport's vicinity. They need to clear slots at all the airways. Otherwise an aircraft can arrive at, say, the South China Sea but find that it cannot slot into the traffic flow.

Just arrived Yangon after 2 hour delay waiting at KLIA. From my observations most aircraft was taking off on Runway 14R. In addition aircraft was also landing on the same runway thus adding to the long long wait.

Not an issue solely borne by KLIA, happens the world over and is often not an issue at the origin, it could be destination or enroute traffic/airspace clearance.

We use a system here in Australia whereby a/c are held intentionally at the point of origin to reduce known holding at the destination. Fact of life - more of us want to travel, no additional airspace to accommodate.

Flights apparently still delayed out of KLIA. Heard from MAS engineer at Yangon that KLIA has one runway closed due to calibration exercise by DCA

Its being tested: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/stuck-in-a-plane-circling-above-airport-its-going-to-be-history
