MAB Orders 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8 with 25 Options

Recommended Posts

That's it? They'll need way more to crush the competition, especially AA.

Definitely. Maybe a 100 frame order, each with a 6-8 suite F cabin with closing doors, J with lie flats in a 1-1 config and Y with 38 inch pitch, internet, PTV, and all with yields to match. Look out AA! Your days are numbered!

Nah, still missing the putting green and inflight shower (non-communal of course)

MAS may announce Boeing order
Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) will likely make an announcement on a possible order of the newly-improved Boeing B737 MAX as early as Wednesday, as the national carrier wastes no time in rolling out its growth plans.
Business Times understands that the order would be similar to Vietnamese budget carrier VietJet Air’s purchase of 100 B737 MAX 200 worth US$11.3 billion (RM46 billion) at list prices in May.
MAS could place up to half of the budget carrier’s order.
At the same time, there are also talks on a possible order for the new Airbus A321neo.

So BBJ just for royalty and "Royalty"? :clapping: :search:

But seriously, the A321neo is great for this side of the world. Can offer frequency .

Also if they order, will this be MAS's first airbus NB order?

If they are going for the A321 Neo, wouldn't it make more sense to go A320 series in the new order?

How far off is the Boeing 737 Max offering? Particularly the 739 Max compared to the A321 Neo?

Thats simply fabulous! I cant wait to pay RM11,378 (excl tax) for my one way KUL-BKK to enjoy all those frills onboard.

Does that include the credit card processing fee ?

How far off is the Boeing 737 Max offering? Particularly the 739 Max compared to the A321 Neo?

B737 MAX 9 is priced at USD119.9mil a piece compared to A321neo USD125.7 mil.

As of June 30th, Boeing has around 500 for B737 MAX 9, Airbus has 1129 A321neo on order. AirAsia's 100 A321neo is not included.

Note: B737 MAX has many advantages versus the A320neo. For the 737 MAX 8, MAX 8 offers 12 more seats than the A320neo, and is 8% more fuel efficient with 420 nautical miles of extra range.
Also, B737 MAX 9’s range disadvantage against the A321neo is actually false. B737 MAX 9 has smarter wingtip, bigger engines and more efficient with less drag fuselage. B737 MAX 9 offers 3,605 nm of range with the A321neo at 3,205 nm and A321neoLR at 3,590 nm.

So I guess the B737-9 MAX suffered at CASM figures? Everything else looks fine.

I still think if MH is going to order the B737-8 MAX or MAX 200, they better go for the B737-9 MAX. I can't see the A321 NEO being a cost saver in terms of training and crew commonality. Unless they are going for the A321LR.

It seems NB has attracted serious sales of late. Boeing missed out on this by killing the B757 programme completely.

Thanks Julius for the illustration

Actually those numbers are only useful to the airlines so that they can determine if the aircraft can operate in their network as effectively and efficiently as possible. After doing the number crunching, each airline will come up with a different answer. There is no absolute winner here - it is what works for the airline that matters.

Max 200 is a LCC single class configuration - not suitable for MH.

I think MH is only interested in the A321neo LR - this was emphasised over and over again at the different interviews given this year. IIRC, the type rating for A321 and A330 is not that much different - so A321 pilots will be able to progress to A330s later in the career.

The 757 is not fuel efficient at all. While it has the payload and the range, the tech is really old.

As to why US carriers are still using their 757 is that because they have all been paid off during the US airline bankruptcy, so without any more payments, they're bringing in cash.

A mix of 737-8 and A321neoLR may work for MH. Nothing wrong with having two types. With AK being so big, there are enough of talents in the country.

The 757 is a product from the 1980s. It is due for a serious upgrade. The 757 has not been given a new lease of life, in a similar manner as the 737s did over 2-3 generations.

Right, seems that the A321 cockpit is similar to the A330. Will there be any upgrades to the A320 NEO series cockpit to say similar to that of the A380 and A350?

Agree, 757 is a good product for short to medium haul thin route. Many newly formed airlines in late 1980s used it to launch medium to long haul route.

In hindsight, Boeing ended the 757 somehow prematurely. However given at that point of time when sales has zeroed out, any sane company would have closed down the line to reduce cost. What they really did wrong was to destroy all the tooling for 757 production line. Swap a new Leap or Pratt engines, fit it with 787 cabin and a new wing you would have a very good B757NG. Airbus wouldn't have a chance at all.

B737 MAX 9 just doesn't cut it. B737 has been stretched many times over.

As for A320neo, Airbus has not released any detailed information on the cockpit upgrades, although such plans is in place for future delivery. Link

B757 program was terminated due to lack of orders. It was doing OK in the US but did not see that many orders in the rest of the world. That is why Boeing are still undecided as to weather to go ahead with the MOM plane. Demand is uncertain.

A320 cockpit will probably see updates to keep it in line with the rest of the family.

Back to MH - I think their plans for the next 2 or 3 years revolve around the introduction of the A350 and medium haul narrow body routes.

National carrier Malaysia Airlines said on Wednesday it had ordered 50 Boeing (BA.N) 737 MAX jets, with firm orders on 25 and rights to purchase 25 more.

At list prices, the total order of long-range narrow body aircraft was worth $5.5 billion, the airline said in a statement. Deliveries will begin in 2019.

The new planes will cut operating costs, Chief Executive Peter Bellew said.
