Kuching International Airport @ WBGG 2016

Recommended Posts

Was flying out to BKI early last Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised to see that the food court inside the departure area of KCH (that boarded up area between gates 4 and R) is finally opened. Rather pleasantly furnished, it looks like what you'd find in a shopping mall and I reckoned there are about 10 stalls selling Sarawak cuisine - including Kuching's kolo mee and Sarawak laksa. The food court is quite large and boasts of a centre dessert station selling frozen yoghurt and ice cream. Pity I could not snap any pictures but I did grab a cup of coffee and the vendor told me it was their second day of operation. All said, it will sure give MB and CBTL a run for their money as passengers now have an alternative for F&B. Do check it out guys.

Booyah! D7 aircraft makes a return to KCH after more than 5 years!

Fantastic and gorgeous shot! I think these 2 words are yet enough to describe this shot, because it is too beautiful! :clapping:

Update

This is the 2nd flight of today, which is AK8670. Unfortunately, the clouds were not on our side as they were blocking the sun.

Peak time or increased passenger rate at KCH prompted AK to use their wide body for this route? Great achievement for KCH/WBGG, lets just hope that AK will continue use their wide bodies on this route, perhaps their newly ordered A350 next.

Mr. Prestley and Chris, can't wait to see your shots of the highly anticipated HX on April 26.

Apparently HX arrival date has been moved to May 28th :(

Yeah increased passenger numbers as people are going back to Sarawak for the upcoming election.

Might be a last minute decision to do a visual for 07 instead. Not quite sure, wasn't listening in to ATC. KCH is a favourite airfield for visual departures and arrivals.

Day 3 with 9M-XXS "Xhaolin Spirit".

Extracted from HX webpage:

Commencing on 28 May 2016, Hong Kong Airlines, an internationally-acclaimed full-service airline, will be the only carrier providing direct twice-weekly flight service between Hong Kong and Kuching, Malaysia. The new service will be operated by an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft, further strengthen the airline’s network in Asia.

Kuching is Sarawak’s capital city, as well as one of the largest cities in the island of Borneo. Since Kuching sounds like the Malaysian word for cat, it is commonly translated as the “Cat City”. Cats can be found in every corner of the city, ranging from cat statues to Cat Museum, attracting cat lovers from around the world.

For travelers who like to dig deeper into the beauty a city, the unique history and culture, as well as nature and wildlife of Kuching will never disappoint you. In Bako Natural Park, you may immerse yourself in a tranquil wilderness walking along the forest trail, and learn more about the diverse habitat at Borneo. At Sarawak Cultural Village, you will get introduced to local culture and lifestyle by spending a day with aborigines there. Back to the city center, it’s time to enjoy the crossover of silence and cosmopolitan vibes at Kuching Waterfront.

Mr. Li Dianchun, Chief Commercial Officer of Hong Kong Airlines said, “We are delighted to launch our first direct service to Malaysia following the inaugural of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in February. With the end of rainy season, we believe Kuching will become another popular travel destination this year, and further strengthen our network in Asia. This will also offer passengers more diverse options for business and leisure travel.”

From HX's website:

16000_codeShare_15Apr700e.jpg

You will notice that Kuching is marked with a purple line (Operated by codeshare partners). I think we will not be seeing HX's aircraft but Hong Kong Express (UO) equipment but marketed as a HX flight. After all, its an all economy A320 which means its a LCC type equipment. Oh well....better than nothing I suppose.
