Have found out the -900's are operating to PER on an adhoc basis due to payload limitations on the -800's when loads are high when summer temperatures are forecast to be hot.

OD151/152 today and yesterday has been operated by -LNH.

But only 3 are equipped with overhead life rafts.

Those 900s use up a lot of runway for takeoff if heavy and hot temp operations. OD went for more 800 series instead. One of the aspect of why the A321 sells more than 900 series..

Lion Air has been adjusting remaining B739ER on order to B738.

"In 2016 Lion was apparently able to negotiate a cancellation of 21 737s that were initially slated to be delivered in 2016 and 2017. As of the beginning of 2016 Lion had 44 737NGs remaining on order (a mix of 737-800s and 737-900s). Boeing currently only lists 10 outstanding 737NG orders for the Lion Group.
Given the 13 deliveries but reduction in 34 orders, this indicates there were 21 cancellations. According to the CAPA Fleet Database, these cancellations were recorded in Sep-2016 and Oct-2016. The CAPA Fleet Database also shows that Lion Group converted 16 737-900ER orders to 737-800s in 2016, continuing a trend over the last few years in which it has opted mainly for the smaller -800 despite initially ordering the -900ER."

Wow; so that means they will only receiving the Batik Air B739ERs instead of brand new aircraft.

Why does OD fly so many aircraft back/forth from Batam (BTH) using OD5001/5002?

-LNG was flown there over the weekend and -LNK is just airborne from KL as OD5002.

Isn't Batam a MRO hub for the Lion Group?

Had the privilege of visiting the Lion's MRO centre at Batam and it will be massive by the time everything is built.

Isn't current bilateral air agreement with Australia is maxed out already? Where will OD get her slot?

Nope, there is still room, remember MH has taken alot of capacity out of the market, whereas D7 has relatively remained flat. The only additions were OD's new PER-KUL route and D7's new seasonal x4 weekly increase at MEL. There is still room for atleast a daily flight out of MEL and SYD, the air service agreements only apply to MEL, SYD, PER and BNE.

Find ak tickets to mle is expensive. Hope od will start flying to mle.

MLE has always been an expensive destination - even if you can afford the airfares, other costs like hotels will burn a big hole in your pocket too!

Flew up on OD152 which was operated by -LNL, spoke to the crew and they confirmed it was due to payload limitations on the 738's due to the hot temps in Perth. A couple of weeks back we had a 43oC day and OD152 went out with no pax bags on board. Was a powerful but very long take off.

So for the foreseeable future the 739ER's will stay on OD151/152 and the overnight flight OD155/156 will continue to be operated by 738's.

Interesting to see -LNW and -LNY operating regional flights which they wouldn't normal operate in between EDTO flights to India and PER.

OD appears to be light on for B739's at the moment with -LNG and K in the hangar and another frame operating daily to PER. Flights that are normally 739's are being subbed with 738's.

Well, that would not have won many fans on that particular flight :)

shortsighted move by TourismMalaysia. People can travel by other airlines. They need to do more promotion now more than ever before

I think they have no choice because the govt. is very short of cash due to unprecedented leakages in the country's history!
