Bing Chu 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2006 Today was exceptionally busy at BKI, by local standard that is. Saw three Korean Air birds in the afternoon - 744, 772 and 333. Anyone has any idea why the sudden Korean invasion ? And this after Asiana increased ICN/BKI/ICN to 4x weekly. Only saw the 772 lifting off - must have been near empty. Rotated at the 'piano keys' adjacent to Jln Selangor spotters' haunt and was airborne almost immediately after. Also, my son claimed he saw a MH 744 flying overhead whilst we were having lunch in town. Again, not a common sight ! BTW, any fellow BKI spotters present this afternoon at Jln Selangor ?! Will definately go to the airport, even if i have to walk all the way from Sri Kepayan BTW, any fellow BKI spotters present this afternoon at Jln Selangor ?! Where is Jln Selangor ? Bing Chu 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2006 Those Korean birds in BKI, where do they park? At T1 or T2? Or do they park at all? Only saw the 744 and 772 at T1. Pics by Samuel at Observation Hill show the 333 also there Where is Jln Selangor ? Take the left turn just before reaching Tg Aru beach (opposite Waikiki condo) - that is Jln Selangor. Go all the way in and just before you have to take a 90 deg right turn to reach 'third beach' there is an open space to the left of the road - spotters' haunt ! And yes, I "have family already" ! I was trying to get a pic for my son - we tried to wait for the 744 to depart earlier but had to rush off for his piano lesson instead. Adrian M 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2006 sam, good one. saw the pictures. looks like from the end of rwy 02. u went there alone? anyways, keep it up. will contact you if I'm around. heard adrian was in ldu? - btw, wat observation hill everyone is talking about - Dante, Yeah I was. I'm back oredi at monday. Darn I so love LHD airport. The wind mixed with A1 perfume from the props is so magnificent...just too bad 4 flights a day and 2 to 4 hours apart are too long. I would flee to LHD just for watching F50 in upclose and personal. During my LHD trip I went to Semporna...nothing much and I didn't know where the airstrip is that were once serviced by DHT. Before come back to KK I was in Sandakan for a day. Nothing special about SDK and the airport is way too far n quite hard to do spotting. LHD still in my top list for "Great airport to spot and near aircraft". Can't wait fo go back LHD next year. Samuel, I maybe miss the Korean air events but I was happily getting "blow jobs" by F50 hehe. Love her sound when she is "turned on".
S V Choong 4 Report post Posted April 5, 2006 Adrian, Lahad Datu airport reminds me of the old Tawau airport. Used to go there just to check out the F-27s. Just love it.

Adrian M 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2006 Adrian, Lahad Datu airport reminds me of the old Tawau airport. Used to go there just to check out the F-27s. Just love it. I see. o old Twu airport is exact replica of LHD eh? I seen the old terminal once about 3 years ago by passing through housing opposite the terminal on the other side of the airport. I can only vaguely remember the terminal size but the Tawau board at the top of terminal still fresh in my mind. u r rite abt SDK airport... too far for good spotting. but i did find a gd spot "next" to our chief minister residence.... let me know when u drop by SDK again... cheers Ok cool I'll contact you when I'm going back. The newly built Taman Airport just few hundred meters to the airport perimeter looks very promising for plane freaks to live there. Or at least I would. But the distant to town is just painstakingly far unless I work in airport LOL.

S V Choong 4 Report post Posted April 5, 2006 (edited) I see. o old Twu airport is exact replica of LHD eh? Should be the other way around Adrian The terminal is different, old Tawau is still larger than LHD. Old Tawau airport was built in the 1960s and was closed during late 2001. I was just saying that the siting is quite similar being on the hill. The terminal itself is different. Population-wise Tawau is much bigger than Lahad Datu (population around 100,000) as well, Tawau's population is 340,000 around the same as Sandakan and KK's population is only around 380,000 during 2001 census. Not to mention that Tawau is a district administrative "capital" of the Tawau region (Bahagian Tawau) which Lahad Datu and Semporna fall under Edited April 5, 2006 by S V Choong
