Former MAS chief demands Christoph Mueller be fired

Aziz Rahman, representing a Malay NGO, also demands all Malaysia Airlines Berhad directors appointed by Khazanah Nasional to resign.

Malaysia-Airlines-CEO-Abdul-Aziz-Abdul-RahmanKUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) CEO Christoph Mueller’s outspoken claim that MAB staff are “lazy and are always sleeping” is the direct effect of excessive executive power granted to him by the company’s board of directors.

“As citizens of this country, we, especially the Bumiputeras, are extremely insulted by the rude remarks made by a CEO who happens to be an expatriate who is paid salaries and allowances amounting to millions of Malaysian ringgit by MAB,” former Malaysia Airlines CEO Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said at a press conference here today.

He said among the excessive powers given to Mueller was the mandate to hire 15 other expatriates to hold important positions in MAB, including the role of Human Resource director.

He added that in Mueller’s senior management team, there were no local experts to faciliate any possible succession plan after his contract expires.

“Having Malaysians working in a government-linked company is important because they have in them the spirit of national development, not just the spirit to make money. And since this is a national organisation, nationals will have more interest in seeing it prosper,” Aziz said in condemning the number of foreigners Mueller had hired.

Aziz, who is also the director of Majlis Perundangan Melayu’s (MPM) special committee set up to save MAS, did not spare his criticisms for the MAB board of directors appointed by government investment arm Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah).

“The special committee’s view is that Mueller’s rudeness and outspokenness is due to the fact that the MAB board of directors are made up of incompetent people, most of whom had led MAS previously and under whose leadership MAS’ performance continued tumbling.”

MPM is demanding that the board of directors immediately fire Mueller from his post, review the appointment of expatriates and have each of them acquire a compulsory approval from the Malaysian Administrative Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU).

MPM also wants all existing MAB board of directors to resign and if they refuse, the special committee will send a letter of protest to Khazanah by next week.

Mueller's outspokenness is part of his culture so GET OVER IT AND STFU! If you can't adapt to the way other people do business in the globalized age then you're going to get left behind. And stop playing the bloody race card to further your own bloody agenda. If you want national development, do it with a government agency. An airline is first and foremost a business and should be run as such.

And another thing Tan Sri Aziz, your opinion is no longer relevant. You've been away from the airline industry too long & the aviation sector has changed tremendously in the 25 years since you retired. Back then EK was just a kid & Dubai was some out of the way airport better known for its duty free sweepstakes. AirAsia is not even an idea, let alone a fully fledged airline. People still book their flights via travel agents, and long range flights to Europe still have transit stops along the way. It's a whole different ball game today, so what makes you think the things you do back then are relevant & applicable now?

Stay away & let the current generation handle it now.

Ok guys, all the OT discussions have been removed to the Golden Lounge if you wish to continue.

A spy from "high above" has just leaked what is considered the most reliable rumour for this topic todate:

Note: Edited from original post per request to "trim it down".

Malaysia Airlines' CEO To Work For Emirates

"On one hand we should respect that he quit for personal reasons. At the same time thats almost always the reason executives give for leaving companies. For what its worth, I have a friend very close to the situation who said the reason he quit was because he could no longer handle handle the culture of corruption at the airline, and that so much of the rest of the management wasnt actually interested in improving things. Some of you may recall that Malaysia brought a 747 back into service, which apparently was a last straw for him, as that entire decision was made without consulting him."

Such a big loss for MH :(

Now that the EK job rumour has been confirmed and reported in many websites, below is the partly original leakage as I received it prior to the directive to "trim it down" at post #222 above, for clarity purpose:

Mueller has been offered a job with EK.

Not the top job obviously but apparently they were impressed with him when they met him as part of the MH-EK negotiation.

But not sure if he has accepted.

"not a demotion. imagine.. CEO of your corner convenience store, or head of something at Harrolds."

Harrolds is just a no-name store as the hole-in-the-wall convenience store. I would be indifferent with any posting at any of those places.

But a position as head of an important division at Harrods HQ....now that's something else.

Not a big loss at all for MH, MH prefers to shot themselves in their foot/ feet. CM could better be off at EK, who knows one day he will replace Tim Clark.

Corruption and cronies is so much ingrained MH working culture, no one would be able to save it even now it is a private company. Hopelessly hopeless. Now do you see the point of shutting it down for good?

I think that those who are inside MH are heartened by what is happening on the world of Malaysian politics - where the corrupt can run riot over normal hardworking people. Their sense of entitlement and security is very high and no foreigner will come in their way. If they are going to rape and pillage the national airline, they will do it regardless.

MH does not deserve to have Mueller. He is leaving a cesspit - MH is beyond redemption.....

Hope more EK flights to KUL and open up routes to other Malaysian cities as well.

Malaysia Airlines with that on/off business decisions does not do the country any good overall...

Looks like Batik Air Malaysia/Malindo will now take over the role of premium carrier in Malaysia. MH is finished.

MH surely is not the best airline in the world but the comments above are a bit too much since everyone is just speculating as to what happened.

Azizul should probably dig deeper and find out the "real" story? ;)

Azizul should probably dig deeper and find out the "real" story? ;)

You might know something but the original leakage at post #222 contained 3 key rumours:

1. EK job offer

2. Child custody; and

3. An affair

My sources are saying that all 3 are true.

But I think the order of importance among the 3 which led to his departure from MH is 2-3-1.

2 is actually the main reason for everything.

3 is happening/happened while 2 is ongoing "but it is hardly an issue" quoting my sources.

And 1 is actually CM's career plan post MH while managing issue 2. He can't be unemployed, can he?

I actually think the corruption bit in that news article is a hoax.

Anyway l am pretty confident that CM will drop more bombs in the future if there is element of corruption within MH which led to his departure.

Malaysia Airlines to name Bellew as chief executive

Malaysia Airlines will name chief operating officer and former Ryanair executive Peter Bellew as the ailing national carrier's chief executive as early as this week, The Star newspaper reported.

Outgoing CEO Christoph Mueller is due to leave in September, having been hired only last year to lead the carrier's recovery from the twin blows of the disappearance of flight MH370 and the shooting down of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014.

Malaysia Airlines declined to comment on the newspaper report. State fund Khazanah, which took the company private in 2014, referred queries to the airline.

What a story about CM. Overtaking MH's issues on itself.

Will the new guy continue on with CM's restructuring work or is he going to come out with a different approach to haul the airline back into profitability and recognition.
